OddRodd's OddThoughts

The problems with manufactured "CUSTOM" knives.

Let me introduce myself, my name is Rod, always has been, never have much cared for it (the moniker) myself. That being as it is, when I opened my little store here on ebay, I tagged it with a moniker both descriptive and perhaps a bit of a clue as to myself and what one may find inside my fine E-stablishment.ODDRODD's I feel is much more indicative and nuanced than "Rod's knife store". I sell primarily Frost brand knives as anyone who has wandered across my store has discovered (thanks to those of you have actually made purchases and repeat purchases! Every sale DOES MEAN a great deal to me and my family). This is my first attempt at retail of any kind in my 45+ year existance, it continues to teach me things and I continue to plod along building up my name ODDRODD'S and my reputation at what most days seems a snail's pace to me. Now I am quite happy with most of the product that I get from Frost Cutlery. The traditional handled true pocket knives are well made and as a matter of note, I carry the smoothbone "Mustang Trapper" in my own pocket nearly eveyday, I cut stuff with it, it takes and holds an edge just beautifully. I would be sorely disappointed to lose an everyday tool as useful as my mighty smooth bone mustang.

The "Tactical" frame is the next area that I'd like to spend a brief amount of time on. Occupying this section are such blades are "The Panther", "The Delta Ranger", "The Eagle Eye, etc. , there are literally dozens of styles to choose from, They're all composite handled, and they're all worth (in my opinion) $5.95 - $12.95 problem is, folks here at eBay seem to think they're worth about $1.83 regardless of the size, regardless of the steel quality or any extras'. These are valuable working knives, even though the prices that they bring don't do them justice at all. Buy one, and your getting a bargain! These are also knives that I won't be bringing into stock anymore because regardless of the quality of the knives, it's impossible for me to make any money on them. Check them out in my store's "BARGAIN BIN" and pick up some great values for your money.

The next thing I just want to say briefly has to do with the big, so-called "customs" that Frost Produces in both sword and "short sword/large bowie". Now, I'm a guy that believes the old adage: "form follows function". What I see from Frost Custums is a bunch of big knives with big blades that appear to have no use whatsoever! and if a person was to try to cut something, they'd probably end up cutting an arm off before anything else! That's why you won't see alot of those "customs" in my store on any regular basis. There are one or two that may show up in time, but only the exceptional ones. If I present a factory manufactured "custom" knife that actually lives up to the title, it will be priced accordingly, if it's just another big blade with parts cut out of it to make it look "cool" I'll probably start it out at .99 and let you guys decide what it's worth.

I have extremely limited funds to devote to this project anymore, with that in mind, I'm going to concentrate on stocking the knives that I see are quality made and useful as tools: traditional pocket knives, larger full metal frame locking folding hunters with wooden or exotic type handles such as the Diemos Tactical, The Apache Series and the Ram's Horn Series to name a few, those are all quality knives priced well below their actual value. I also plan on bringing in some more fixed blade hunter/skinners when I have the opportunity. So that will be the cutlery breakdown in my store as it continues into the future. Of course I'll have the occasional "Odd or End" that I run across, but mostly cutlery is what your going to see from now on.

Thanks,

OddRodd
