Archive - March 2008 Horton Hears A Who!Posted Mar-31-08 06:52:11 PDT Updated Apr-01-08 08:21:04 PDT HORTON HEARS A WHO! BOTTOM LINE: Great fun! Jim Carrey and Steve Carrell do a great job at voicing. The adaptation went well without treading too far into modern Hollywood-gloss. As with most new animation, at least half of the jokes seem written for adults. Most of the kiddie laughs came from the visual humor. Still, Seuss' moral tale of faith and imagination rings thru loud and clear. Oh....and KATIE ROCKS! "eat rainbows and poop butterflies!" Grade: movie: B Katie: A+!

Speed Racer the movie!Posted Mar-25-08 07:15:11 PDT Updated Mar-25-08 07:18:22 PDT Is it WRONG that I'm excited about the new Speed Racer movie?! At first I hadn't given it any thought at all - until I 'accidentally' saw the trailer and -WHOA! - this looks pretty interesting. This movie can be summed up in one simple term -- EYE-CANDY! * Info from my favorite CB movie site --> http://www.efavata.com/CBM/speedRacer.htm Speed Racer - it may not change our lives (then again, who knows) but it will definitely be a great way to spend 1hr and 40min! But best of all.... IT'S FROM THE WACHOWSKI BROTHERS! (The guys who blessed of with The Matrix) *New Incredible Hulk - 1st Teaser trailer!Posted Mar-19-08 10:43:29 PDT http://incrediblehulk.marvel.com/ http://www.efavata.com/CBM/Hulk2.htm HOLY COW! Looks like a vast improvement over the Ang Lee disaster. SXSW - Austin, TXPosted Mar-16-08 11:28:02 PDT Updated Mar-16-08 11:29:28 PDT ANOTHER YEAR, and another great South by Southwest music/film fest! Lot of people - bands, acts, groups, labels, filmmakers, actors, etc.. descended upon our fine city and this past week has been fun and hectic! and to top it all off a FREE hiphop concert at Auditorium Shores (downtown Austin) feat. Jean Grae, Talib Kweli and ICE CUBE!! YES - Ice Cube of NWA fame! Mr. 'Barbershop/Friday/Are we there Yet' himself! Gangsta rapper extraordianire/filmmaker/movie star. Cube put on a helluva show, at least 20,000 people showed up, and left Austin charged up ready to scream 'F$%* tha Police! lol Even better, the weather was 80deg and partly sunny - how perfect is that?! Great fun! Can't wait til next year :-) IRON MAN MOVIE - Cannot wait!Posted Mar-12-08 08:27:11 PDT HOW EXCITING IS THIS?! The Iron Man movie is looking great. Watching those trailers with Iron Man pulling G-forces out of his azz and blowing by Tomcats (and then breaking the sound barrier!) - man, you cannot wish for more! The special FX look believable enough for a highly technicle vehicle (hell, they pulled off Transformers, anything is good to go) . But most importantly the STORY looks very well done. Two things Hollywood execs needs to understand is that 1) The fans come first! We are the lifeblood that drives the popularity, and we will be responsible for giving good/bad word-of-mouth for the movies. If we love it, we'll not only go see it multiple x, we'll convince others to see it. 2) Story is very crucial to making comic book movies work. This is why Spiderman 1 and 2 were so awesome, part 3 failed; X-Men 1 and 2 were great, but 3 was so-so (no Gambit!) and FF2 and the first Hulk were bombs. Story- IMPORTANT. I love that they got Robert Downey Jr, one of the best actors ever, to bring Tony Stark to life. Downey Jr. is such an amazing actor - he can play ANYTHING. He can definitely play a handsome, brilliant, witty, smug billionaire weapons/technology dealer-slash-part time superhero. Tony Stark is such a complex character that I'm sure a lot of people will be surprised by the layers that Downey Jr will bring to the role. (layers, like an onion - Shrek lol) Iron Man has a big enough following from fans, comic book lovers, and action movie buffs that I predict it will bring in a fat $40-50M opening, and topping $150M overall. But most of all, I cannot wait to see Downey Jr pull off an impeccable Tony Stark performance!
Semi-Pro movie review.Posted Mar-03-08 09:36:04 PST Updated Mar-03-08 09:42:35 PST I am something of a Will Ferrell fan. I think Will Ferrell is funny; funny looking, funny sounding, and funny acting. He has the sports comedy movies on lockdown. He could play his man-child characters in his sleep at this point. Which is why he should take a break from sports comedies! In 'Semi-Pro' he plays a guy name Jackie Moon who as a hit song 'Love me Sexy' (which doesn't sound too bad actually) and uses his record sales money to buy a basketball team, The Flint Tropics. Yes. Flint. As in Flint, Michigan. Jackie Moon is hilarious in a QUADRUPLE role as owner/coach/player/promoter! Said team is in the ABA, the team that eventually got absorbed into the NBA. Problem is, the team only has one guy that is an actual skilled player (Andre '3000' of Outkast) looking to break into the NBA. Woody Harrelson gets thrown into the mix as the guy who will lead the team to the promise land. He won a Championship ring with the Celtics - but sat the bench the whole season. Since this movie takes place in the 1970s, it has a funky grooving soundtrack and great non-PC machoman dialogue. Insert a bunch of lewd jokes and there is your movie for 90 minutes. Defnitely wait for Netflix. Grade: C+ |
