“Sellers who delight their buyers will win on eBay….”

Sellers who delight their buyers will win on eBay….”

is the message we received from Mr. McDonald (Sr. Director of US Trust & Safety-eBay) last evening.  (5/19/08)

I ask:  Win what?  I’ve “delighted” my buyers for almost 8 years.  I’m not winning any longer - I’m losing! Kicked to the curb by eBay because I wanted to stay small, run a nice little eBay store for the enjoyment and earn a little extra income in my retirement years. I used to wake each day, excited to start the day and work my eBay business.

EBay was so special because it leveled the playing field for anyone who wanted to play the game.  It allowed thousands of people from all over the country, who would have never had the opportunity, to experience a little of the “American dream.”  But now it too is leaving, by way of corporate greed.

Ebay had become very successful while allowing so many to have a “slice of the pie.”  Couldn’t that success have continued?  I just don’t understand the mentality. Those that have, must have more, and more, and more.  That is the American reality.  And I, like many, am waking up from the dream.  Excuse me, I’m going back to bed.

Yikes!! When the H**** did they start doing this?????:-(

I just noticed that when doing a search, on the results page, eBay's Sponsored Links - encouraging people to go off eBay to buy, has been moved up above the list of pages at the bottom.  You don't see there are more pages unless you page down.  And if you don't notice the "X number items found" notation at the top, you may not page down, thinking there is only one page of results.  Not only are they giving preference to off eBay sellers over stores, but now over many listings as well.

Not only does this really make me feel like I've been kicked to the curb by eBay, but it just cost me a lot of money.  Yes, I should have noticed the number of results at the top of the page, but I was in a hurry.... and I didn't.  I looked to see what an item was selling for on eBay to see if I should go back to a sale and buy one to resell.  I only saw one that was listed for quite a high amount.  I rushed back to the sale and was willing to give a pretty hefty amount for the item thinking I could at least double my money.

Came back to list it and discovered there are TONS of the item for sale going for next to nothing. I had paged down, got to "Sponsored Links" and thought I was at the end of the listings for that item and missed several more pages.

Then I realized, I had done that more than once.  I wonder how many others are doing the same thing?

To those I say, CAUTION!!!  You have to page down to find more pages of results in a search.  Pay attention to the number of results noted at the top.  It may cost you a better deal, or as in my case, you might get stuck with something you can't sell. :-(

Vintage Fabrics - sure wish I knew more....

I've had the good fortune to come by a load of vintage fabric.  I sure wish I knew more about vintage fabrics. I have been doing a burn test on each piece and that gives me a pretty good idea of the fiber content.

I recently obtained a absolutely lovely piece and the burn test is very inconclusive.  It is trademarked Nu-Blends, Inc. I have called them and left a message - no response.

If anyone happening by here can help id this fabric, I would love to hear from  you.   It's a bit shinier than it appears on the photo.  Pretty "silky."

Bubble Bath - It's not just for bathing...

Sellers, collectors & lovers of vintage buttons know they can become pretty grimy over time.  They often  have sat for years in cans, jars, boxes.

Washable ones, soaked for a short time in a little tepid water and a drop of bubble bath, and then dried with a soft cloth, come squeaky clean & shiny. It has even removed some of the rust from metal shanks.

I use Avon's bubble bath.  It has a long list of uses other than bathing and it leaves your old buttons as clean as your tub.
