Bidding on eBay is Dropping Like a HOT POTATO

Wow...We are almost half way through the year already!  eBay LIVE in Las Vegas was a tremendous trip, and very educational.  One of the things we learned as we spoke to many of you was that we were not alone in feeling the effects of soft bidding.  Since the switch got flipped in February (sif-in-core), things have not been the same.  We understand that it was switched back in Mar/Apr - but we have gotten feedback from customers and other ebay sellers that suggest a lot of buyer frustration and confusion nonetheless

In addition, we have seen a 25% drop in bidding since then.  The last 4 weeks have been perhaps the worst of the year.  This is devastating - and we have asked ebay to do something NOW to bring back the bidders...

Are you feeling the pain?  Obviously as sellers, it would help if we would commit to buying from each other more frequently, but c'mon...ebay, please stir up the bidder pot!

This time of year is always SLOWER , but I have to say store sales are ultimately slow this summer.

Talking with other sellers, we are in the same boat! Things are really dragging. I do try to purchase from other sellers, especially those who are my customers too. But it's a tight market out there and everyone is feeling it! Even at very low BIN pricing, customers are still begging for more of a deal!

I am fairly new to e-bay, I started back in Feb. this year and I have noticed that no one seems to be bidding on anything much of mine anymore. I thought maybe I was doing something wrong. What switch got flipped in February? Please tell me more.

I have been selling on ebay since 2002 and have my ups and downs. I don't have items with very high prices so I think that helps. I have had times though when I feel like I am only making enough to pay ebay fees. I have tried three or four other new sites and some of them are free but don't sell very much. I stll sell more on ebay than anywhere else. I think this time of year is slow too because of vacations, etc. My best month was February which is usually my worst. PayPal is high also but there is another site I was going to try but they charge a straight $1.00 for every transaction. It would be good for someone who sells higher priced items but not as good for us little guys.

As a fairly frequent buyer, firstly, I really like your shoes, and secondly, the shipping costs are becoming prohibitive. You might consider a special shipping price for repeat customers?? I know I would be more inclined to bid. There have been times when the price of the merchandise was less than the shipping cost.

Thank you for your interest.

I am new to Ebay, and i have two questions for you please. 1.avantegifts started the comment with " talking with other sellers" How do you get to talk to other sellers or buyers? It seems to me that ebay does not want us to talk to each other.2.Why does the words "report this comment" appear at the end of these comments? mlcornerotwww

I am only an occasional buyer. Why is it that a seller can cancel a transaction and not get anything negative but if a buyer backs out, they are essentially blackballed?

The rating system is a joke, a seller blackmails you to leave positive feedback or they won't leave feedback for you. A system run this way is nothing more than feelgood with no real merit involved. If you leave neg. feedback, expect it back warranted or not.

No system is perfect. For the most part, the system is only as good as the people using it.My guess is,on ebay there are good people and there are bad people, good and bad sellers and good and bad buyers.Ebay's system seems to run itself for the most part,so it is up to us who use it to police it.That is why Ebay has these signs (warnings)up everywhere,"Report this comment"", is this message going against ebay policy?"

If you have a problem with someone, either buyer or seller, the first thing to do is talk to them.Try to come to an agreement with them before you leave feedback.Maybe you can avoid bad feelings and bad feedback. It does seem to be true that if you leave bad feedback you get bad feedback,But from what i'm hearing most of it starts with the buyers. They get a bad product or something and the first thing they do is leave bad feedback for the seller. If the seller has already left good feedback for the buyer he's at a disadvantage. That is why sellers wait to get feedback from the buyers first.

Feedback was not invented by ebay. There are other forms of feedback. When i envoice an item i type a note to the buyer. It says: Upon reciving your package ,would you please inspect it and let me know if you are happy with it,did it arrive in good condition? If there is a problem i want to know that also. You can let me know by email or if you are pleased and don't have time to correspond you can just leave feedback with ebay.As soon as i hear from you i will leave feedback for you,etc.etc.

This is not an attempt to bribe or force positive feedback from a buyer. It is a genuine attempt to keep a spirit of goodwill and friendship in the transactions and to keep the playing field level throughout.I wait to hear that my shipment arrived in good condition and then i leave feedback. If a couple of weeks go by and i haven't heard anything,i send another email asking if it arrived ok If another week or so goes by, i just leave feedback and forget it. I've had a couple of sa

One reason bidding is down on shoes is the rampant selling of counterfeit products! Ebay has done little if anything to stop or even slow down this occurrence. Face it, taking people at their word isn't what it used to be. We tried selling and never got a single bid on most of our items, and the ONE we did , the buyer never paid! This problem has lead me to rethink the whole eBay process.

In reply to mlcornerotwww , the feedback system was intended for use the way you speak of. The problem is (I don't know if you buy or not) that some sellers do use it as blackmail. If you buy AND sell on the same account, you can't afford to leave NEG. feedback. There have been numerous times ( too many to count ) that I have communicated with the seller of an item that I had issues with only to have them give me a smarta** answer knowing that if I leave NEG. feedback they will too, so I'll just be screwing myself. Maybe some buyers are too quick to leave NEG., but for the most part, a lot of sellers use your reasoning as an excuse, myself and a lot of other people feel that once the buyer makes payment( and it's good) their part is done and there is NO reason for the seller to wait to leave feedback. I'm sure, like me , most people would get back to the seller in another manner if there was a problem. I say "most". I know there are times when people will just leave NEG. , but most of the NEG. feedback I see is deserved.

I have been a seller on ebay since 1999. I used to make a pretty decent extra income on ebay. But with the rising costs of fees, lately it just seems like I am just covering my fees. I do still purchase from ebay sellers but usually only the ones with a lot of positive feedback and me just being a repeat customer.
It is very frustating to have so much fraud on this site and the feedback I have been receiving from customers as well as friends is it is just not worth it any more with high shipping prices and all the phishing emails they receive after bidding on something.
The newbies on ebay need to learn bidding etiquette instead of highjacking the bidding then walking away, it has become a game to some.
I still do sell on ebay but not as much as I used to.
