AKA MERCHANDISE & SALVAGE

From One End of the Spectrum to the Other...

This really isn't about eBay, per se... unless you account for the fact that it almost made me miss the mail carrier coming to pick up yesterday's sales for shipment.

Or the fact that it has made me even more determined to be successful in my eBay venture.

At my night job last night, at about 2am, I was robbed at gunpoint. Two young guys, one with a gun, the other with the bag they wanted the cash deposited into...

They came in from both sides - one through each door - and when I looked up and saw one wearing a ski mask, the strangest thing went thru my mind... it was like "Hmmm... it's cold out, but not cold enough for a mask..."

That is, until I saw the gun.  I've never been robbed before. I know people who have and I always thought to myself what I would do in the situation.  But you just don't know WHAT you'll do until you're in it.

I'm outspoken most of the times and this was one time I couldn't say anything. I think I was in a bit of shock.  Until the gun-toting youth grabbed my brand new cell phone off the counter while  I was rummaging thru the  register trying to gather what little money was in there (it'd been a slow night).  I stupidly stopped what I was doing and protested, "Hey! That's MINE, put it back!!"  - Like a robber would actually differentiate between store loot and loot gathered from the worker - or God forbid - any other soul who'd been in there.  Luckily I was alone at the time.

Regardless, my mouth - and the fact that there was a minimal amount of cash in the bag, set off the one with the gun.  He jumped over the counter and rummaged thru empty deposit bags, certain I had to be keeping a stash of money, I guess.  And when he found out the safe was a time lock and couldn't be opened... that's when he hit me.

He put his hands on me.  That's what incites my fury today.  How dare he.  He just back handed me with the gun in his hand and slapped the blue tooth right off my head.

Last night, sure I was upset.  Then angry.  Then outraged.  Then humbled.  Then grateful.  Then upset again... a bit of a vicious cycle.

Today, dealing with AT&T, the police (still... since last night... ), and the fact that my bosses have not even called to check on me (wonder why? no... I know them well... They think if they do that, I might hold them liable for something I suppose...)... well, I'm a little skitzy.

And my emotions are STILL doing the roller coaster thing.  Sooo not under my control right now.

And I'm going back up there tonight.

I have too, if rent is to be paid... and  bills... and I want to eat.  That's life.

But it hit me just a few minutes ago that the robbers got more from me than my boss.  The cash they got didn't total up to what my cell phone cost (and I'd just gotten it two weeks ago).
That irritates me beyond measure.  Especially since I hadn't put insurance on it yet (I had 30 days to do so) and AT&T won't replace it.  And since my boss won't (without asking, I know he won't... I've worked for them for quite a few years... it's just the way they are - and probably the reason they haven't called me - they're afraid I'll think of asking for a replacement).

Which I should.  And will.

I guess.

Anyway, this is just a rant because... well... because.  Because it's made me determined only that much more to be my own boss.  To get out of that place.  And make something of what I've started with my friend/bizness partner that we can both be proud of.

Party on... Peace... and EVEYRONE be careful out there...

You never know what will happen and when...  so, be grateful beforehand, and live and love like there's no tomorrow... cuz for some, there won't be... I'm just grateful I have my today.
