WWE 24/7

So first and foremost, I guess I should start things off with a WARNING: I WILL be blogging about wrestling sometimes. Yes, I know it's "fake".  Yes, I know it's nerdy. But I see it this way; The movie TWISTER didn't advertise by saying "A movie about FAKE tornadoes!"...they attempt to sell the imagery of REAL tornadoes. In the same way, wrestling should be watched with the understand that you are being sold an "idea" and an "image"...accept this, and you can have alot of fun watching wrestling.

So anyway, I finally got WWE 24/7...I LOVE it. I guess for those who don't know, it's an On Demand channel that is exclusively for WWE programing.

I've been watching all kinds of good things, like WCW's Bash At The Beach '92. At this particular PPV (Pay Per View), Steve Austin was still known as "Stunning Steve Austin" and had shiny blonde (real) hair! He was this sort of snobby Hollywood guy. It was SO different from the Stone Cold people know today. And he was TINY compared to now!

Some things I'd like to see on WWE 24/7 though: RAW and SMACKDOWN! replays weekly, a section with hundreds of singles matches from over the years, and you should always be able to watch last month's PPV's.  I think these would be a great few upgrades to the channel.

Over-all I like it though. For a wrestling fan, it's most definately worth the extra $7 a month (U.S.) for the channel. I suggest all wrestling fans with OnDemand pick this channel up.

1994 and the Cards of Future Nerdiness...

So here I am, Ebay, let me see what you got...

Oh? Some rare action figure variants?

Wow! Some pricey old comics!

Wait, is that?

1994 Fleer Ultra X-Men cards!?

See, it all started in 1994. The year perfectly correlates with the grade I was in. 1991-1st grade, 1992-2nd Grade. So here's little 4th grader Grizz in 1994 when he meets two kids by the names of Adam and Kyle. Adam shows something to me that literally changes my life.

It was a trading card. The picture was beautifully painted, an African American woman, flying over mountains, surrounded by lightning. Her name was Storm. I was in love.

It was almost over night I was begging my mom to go and get some X-Men cards. But not just any cards! They had to be the 1994 Fleer Ultra X-Men cards. These were the coolest cards I had ever seen!

Before long, EVERYONE had them (well, everyone that I hung out with) and we'd all meet at the table during recess, trading doubles, triples, just trying to get the card we wanted. I mean, I had liked X-Men before, but these cards made them mean EVERYTHING to me.

Over the next few years, X-Men was huge, and I was fully engulfed in it, with hundreds of cards, toys galore, t-shirts, shoes, backpacks, folders & notebooks at school...I mean EVERYTHING X-Men. It was such a wonderous time. I'd have stacks of comic books, the video game on Sega Genesis playing, and I'd just geek out.

Well, I never got the opportunity as a child to collect the entire set of the cards that started it all. But now I'm the one with the money, and Ebay is the one with the cards.

Finally, after all these years, the 1994 Fleer Ultra X-Men cards will be mine.
