Who am I anyway?

Most of you who read the blog or have checked out our site knows me as the female fourth of HB Variety.  I work with my brothers and dad, and I am the sole person who writes the blog.

Two years ago I was falsely arrested.  It was the worst, most humiliating moment of my life.  I was handcuffed, had finger prints made, and I had a mug shot taken.  I sat waiting to see the DA with my hands cuffed behind me sitting between two rough men who probably were not innocent.  I had to walk down a hallway with cells on either side.  The men in the cells were like caged animals, yelling at me, pawing at the glass, and the guard had to tell one to put his pants back on.  I was in a holding cell for six hours.  During that time, prostitutes and drug dealers were filtering in and out.  It was maddening to know that these people commit crimes so often that they knew exactly what to do to get out in a timely fashion.  Eventually, I was released, but I still had to go to court and get the charges dropped.

Someone really close to my heart was also falsely arrested.  He was totally innocent.  But He wasn't just handcuffed.  He was beaten within an inch of His life, mocked, spit on, and ultimately was killed.  Jesus was perfect, but He sacrificed His life to save mine and to save yours.  If the true guilty party in my case asked me to take the punishment for him, I would have said no.  Why would I taint my perfect record for someone who stabbed me in the back?  That is exactly what Jesus did for us.  He loved us when we were His enemies.  He didn't just die so that we could go to heaven.  He died so that He could have a personal relationship with us.  He died so that we could live a life that has purpose and meaning, a life that He wants to be involved in.  If you would like to know God, go to www.harvest.org.  There's a link called "How to Know God."

Brazil Missions Trip

Hey Everyone!

I am part of a group that is spreading the gospel to the homeless and needy children of Brazil.  I went to a meeting last night, and I found out that instead of coming up with $100 and paying the rest of the ticket money in June, I'm going to have to come up with the full $1300 by April 1st.  I don't have $1300.  I am going to post auctions up where all the proceeds are going to the Brazil trip.  I really feel like God is calling me to go, and I am excited to see God move.  Believing for God's provision has been an area of struggle in my life, and I am praying that He will provide and I am believing Him to do it.

We're also doing a Krispy Kreme doughnut fundraiser.  I have never been very good at these, but I'm going to do my best.

Thank you for your support!!

Spring Cleaning!

It's getting close to that time of year again!  The time when you go through your house and your possessions and you get rid of things that have lost their sentimental value.  I really need to get on the ball with that one, but one of my friends has already begun. She asked me to put up her maternity clothes, clothes that no longer fit since being a mom, and baby clothes that my godson has outgrown.  He is so cute!  Anyway, I think I'm going to ask my other friends if they need me to put anything online that they no longer want.  Maybe that can be a new venture for us...

What in the World?!?

My dad bought some Valentine's Day items for the physical store.  He got fake flowers and a really cute mug that has a small bear peaking out of the top.  For whatever reason, he also got furry handcuffs.  It really shocked me because that is the complete opposite of my dad and his character.  When I was little, he owned a Christian bookstore.  I asked him about it and he thought they were a funny novelty item.  We all agreed that they would not go on our online business.

This morning I checked what had been added, so that I wouldn't list something that was already online, and I saw that the handcuffs had been added!  I was upset about it and asked my dad what was up.  He told me that my brother added them last night.  I haven't been able to talk to him today, but I think that we need to get in agreement about what does and doesn't go online.

Molly's Folly

My bedroom is a veritable treasure trove for Molly, but only when I'm not there!  Last week, I went into my room to get my earrings, and I heard a noise.  It startled me.  I turned around to find Molly looking beyond guilty in my closet.  She had knocked over a small plastic box where a birthday present for a friend had been perching.  The gift bag was turned over and foil wrappers were crumpled up on the floor around it.  Molly had eaten the chocolate candy I had put in the gift!  At first I was upset about the mess, until she started throwing up.  I felt terrible because she had made herself sick.  Not to mention, the gift was already late.  I took her to the vet, and she had a mild upset stomach.

Good things can come out of messes.  As I was cleaning up the items that had fallen out of the plastic storage box, I came across two gifts my ex gave me – a pair of Prada sunglasses and a Marc Jacob wallet.  Those two items are the final remains of a bad situation that I am thankful is officially in my past.  Since we should put the past behind us, I decided to put these items up for auction.  I want these two items to bring happiness to someone.
