DALLAS (Feb. 22) - A police motorcycle officer died after a crash while escorting Hillary Rodham Clinton's motorcade to a campaign rally. 'We Are Just Heartsick' Asked if police had been given enough time to plan a safe route, department spokesman Lt. Vernon Hale replied, "It doesn't matter with our guys. They've been doing this so long." Tirado is the third police officer to die while escorting a motorcade in the past two years. Here, fellow officers inspect the scene of the accident. _________________________________________________ Copyright 2008, Reprinted With Permission Of The Associated Press. eBay Sellers Say Negative Feedbacks, Are On The Rise...Posted Feb-16-08 12:12:47 PST Updated Feb-17-08 15:26:17 PST
eBay Sellers Say Negative Feedbacks, Are On The Rise... eBay is changing its longstanding feedback system so that sellers will be unable to leave buyers negative or neutral ratings. While the new system has not yet rolled out, I'm hearing eBay sellers complain that negative feedback from buyers is on the rise ever since eBay announced the new policy. Some say buyers are leaving negs because they don't realize sellers can still leave them negative feedback in return. Here are two of the emails I received today.... The Ebay "Feedback" discussion board is discussing the fact that there are now sellers getting negative feedbacks immediately after a "0" new buyer wins an auction. It is thought that these buyers are folks trying to stir up a bunch of sellers so as to get Ebay to modify it's new feedback policy. Very scary and potentially problematic. and... This is an example of what will happen more often after the feedback rules change. This buyer set up an ID, trolled the Seller Central board and used "Buy-It-Now" to win items just to leave negative feedback. Fortunately, the sellers were still able to leave negative feedback and have this one narued and the feedback left for them removed. How long will it take eBay to ban buyers like this after the change? Even if the buyer will have to wait 3 days to leave feedback, I can imagine this will be happening more frequently. We all know that eBay isn't the best at customer service as it is, how long will it take them to respond when they are deluged by sellers that have been scammed by buyers like this one? I'm glad I'm leaving !!

...Internet Guru... eBay Fascist In Treatment Of Sellers...
Former PayPal executive Dave McClure interviewed author, journalist and blogger Kara Swisher of All Things D and asked her what she would do if she were CEO for a day at Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, eBay, Facebook, MySpace, & AOL. What she had to say about eBay will probably resonate in a particularly profound way with sellers in light of the changes eBay announced on January 29th. "I was always worried about what happens to eBay when the Internet gets as good a marketplace. I think it's really hard for them, they have to really open themselves up in a much more significant way and allow people to do what they want more. "I've always felt they were a little bit too fascist in their treatment of sellers and how people buy things and I think once the Internet becomes more and more perfect, it's hard to be the marketplace when the Internet is the marketplace." Kara's take on eBay is about 2:30 minutes into the video interview, but the entire clip is worth watching.

Happy Valentines Day Everyone!!!Posted Feb-14-08 15:49:05 PST
***The Valentine Box*** Roger had planned to send a great many valentines to the girls and boys he knew. There were beautiful valentines in the toy shop window, red satin hearts in little heart-shaped boxes, painted post card valentines, and little card-board figures holding baskets of flowers. Roger had been saving his allowance for four weeks and he was quite sure that he had enough money to buy a valentine for the little girl next door, and one for the little girl across the street, and one for the boy on the next block, and one for the boy who lived upstairs. So, quite early the day before Saint Valentine's Day, Roger decided to go out and buy his valentines. Just as he was about to start, though, he heard a sound from the playroom. Peep, peep, peep. Oh, it was Roger's pet canary who was calling to him, "Wait a moment, little master! You have forgotten to feed me." Roger knew that he must not buy valentines if his pet bird was hungry. He found that it needed fresh water to drink, and the cage needed cleaning too. When he had done all this and filled the seed box, his mother called him. "I want two yards more of lace like this for the baby's dress, Roger. Will you please go down to the store and buy it for me?" "Oh, yes!" Roger said, for he thought that he should be able to go on down to the toy store and buy his valentines at the same time. But just as he was going out of the door his mother spoke again. "Come right home, Roger, just as quickly as you can. I want to finish the baby's dress so that she can wear it this afternoon when I take her over to Aunt Lucy's." Roger got the lace and hurried home with it, but he couldn't get the valentines then. He had to amuse the baby while his mother sewed on the lace. "I can go for the valentines this afternoon," Roger thought. But right after luncheon mother dressed the baby and started out for Aunt Lucy's house. "I may not be back until five o'clock, Roger," his mother said as she kissed him good-bye. "You won't leave dear grandmother alone a minute, will you?" "No, mother," Roger said, but he could have cried, for he knew now that he could not buy his valentines at all. Grandmother lost her spectacles several times, and dropped her knitting ball several more times, and wanted Roger to take her for a walk, so he was very busy all the afternoon. He was glad to be busy for he felt very badly indeed about having no valentines to send. All the children to whom he had planned to send valentines had sent valentines to him the year before. The children were his loved playmates and he knew that Saint Valentine's Day was the holiday for telling one's love. He did not let his dear grandmother know how sorry he was, though, and after a while it was five o'clock, and his mother came home. "Has Roger been a good boy?" she asked his grandmother. "As good as gold," grandmother said. "He has just warmed my heart all the afternoon." "Well, I thought he would," his mother said. "Oh, I almost forgot something, Roger. I have a surprise for you up in the attic." She went up to the attic and came back with a box in her hand. "I meant to give these to you this morning, Roger," she said. "I found them in an old trunk when I was cleaning the attic last week. They are just as good as new and much prettier than the ones in the shops now, I think. They are the valentines that I had when I was a little girl." Oh, such beautiful valentines as filled the valentine box! There were enough so that Roger could take one to every child in the neighborhood on the morning of Saint Valentine's Day. His mother had been right about these pretty, old-fashioned valentines. They were nicer than any in the toy shop. Roger spread them all out on the library table, and looked at them. Suddenly he found out something queer about the valentines; they made him feel as if he had been playing Saint Valentine all day. Some of the valentines had cunning little paper windows that pulled out and showed tiny gold birds inside. They made Roger think of his pet canary that he had fed that morning. Some of the valentines were bordered and trimmed with gilt, and silver, and white paper lace. It made Roger think of the lace he had bought for his mother. A great many of the valentines were in the shape of hearts, or there were hearts hung from them, or hearts on them that could be pulled out and would stand alone. They made Roger think of what his dear grandmother had said, "Roger has warmed my heart all the afternoon." Written By an Unknown Author
Survey: Sellers Change Listing Behavior As Result Of eBay Changes...Posted Feb-13-08 17:25:15 PST Survey: Sellers Change Listing Behavior As Result Of eBay Changes...
Since a significant amount checked the box, "I will stop selling on eBay," we took a look by characteristic to see who was most likely to express this intention. One thing jumped out: the greater the annual GMV (the value of all items sellers sold on online auction sites), the less likely they were to say they would stop selling on eBay. Conversely, the lower the GMV, the more likely they said they would stop selling on eBay. However, the following chart points out that while high-GMV sellers won't stop selling on eBay, 53% said the would list fewer items on eBay, and 60% said they would sell more through offline channels and list more on other sites.
Sell Through Rates (STR), which indicate the average percentage of listings that end with a sale, also played a role in listing intentions. Of the sellers with STR greater than 66%, 28% said they would stop selling on eBay. Of the sellers with a STR less than 34%, 19% said they would stop selling on eBay. This is not too surprising, since under eBay's changes to the fee structure, it costs less to list but costs more when items sell.
Finally, of the sellers who said feedback changes would have the greatest impact on their business and that the impact would be negative, 29% said they would stop selling on eBay. As for listing more items on eBay, 7% of total respondents said they would list more items on eBay. Of the sellers with between $25 - $100k annual GMV, 9% said they would list more items on eBay, and of the sellers with Sell Through Rates of less than 34%, 9% said they would list more on eBay. Re: Unwelcome Guest -- jcarolek....Posted Feb-12-08 19:17:04 PST Updated Feb-12-08 19:19:25 PST Why I Chose To Stop Selling On eBay... I closed my eBay store, NOT just for the strike...jcarolek made some really great points (as usual)...You can find them in her post: Unwelcome Guest...{{{{ HUGS }}}}...I admire you Judy! My reasons for leaving eBay's market place, have nothing to do with yours...Whatever you all do, is totally up to you...Don't feel bad for whatever decision that you choose to make...It's your life and your needs...Do what you feel is best for you and your family...We all have different reasons for leaving and not leaving...You don't have to explain them to anyone or apologize to anyone for it either... I don't mind paying a monthly store fee, or paying paypal fees...But all the FVF's are way too much...We all know it...No other auction site or online market place charges so much... I just want to understand the reason why anyone should have to pay eBay a portion of your earnings that you deserve...That is YOUR hard earned MONEY!...Why do they deserve any part of it?...Just because that you got the traffic or that eBay is a household name?...
New Media Category Pricing Effective February 20...Posted Feb-11-08 16:36:18 PST Updated Feb-11-08 16:38:44 PST New Media Category Pricing Effective Feb. 20
Hello...This is Lorrie Norrington, President of eBay Global Marketplace Operations. By now I hope you've had the chance to watch the Keynote and Executive Q&A webcasts from our annual eCommerce Forum held recently in Washington D.C. I can't think of a better way to start my new role than spending two and half days in discussions with many eBay sellers. I want you to know I'm committed to consistent communication, action and follow through. As a result, I'd like to let you know about our next steps: 1. To make immediate changes where we believe it benefits the health of our marketplace: We heard your comments about the need for media and category-specific pricing. Today, I am pleased to announce we are accelerating our plan to phase-in category-specific pricing for media. This fee cut will coincide with the site-wide pricing changes previously announced to take effect on February 20. In the Books, Music, Movies and Video Game software categories, we will be offering even lower insertion fees for the first three insertion tiers as follows: $0.01 – 0.99 (auction-style only) $1.00 - 9.99 (auction-style and fixed price) $10.00 – 24.99 (au |
