It is a Never Ending Vicious CyclePosted Jun-26-08 14:03:41 PDT I did it. I made a "TO DO" list. I actually sat down and started writing out the different things I needed to get accomplished around the house. I am not an organized person (my mind just doesn't work that way). Anyway - pen was put to paper and a list came into existence. I even labeled it and put little bulletin points out to the side for emphasis. It looks very important.
So I have this list, and I am sitting there trying to triage the situation – you know, put the most important things first. Or, should I put the tasks that should take me the longest first? But if I did that I would see very little progress, I should reverse the order and put the task that will be finished in the shortest amount of time first.
Ok, now I have an ordered list, with bullet points and everything. I even make it out the door to get started on Item # 1, or better yet “*”. Where are the tape measure and the hammer? Why can’t I ever put stuff back where I can find it? I now use this as the perfect opportunity to re-organize the garage and the utility room (NOT ON THE LIST).
Day one is shot and I am half-way through the garage. The garage is in a shambles and I took a peek at the “TO DO” list to see what it was I should be doing. To my surprise the list has grown (That’s not my handwriting!!!). I now go find my wife to find out what she means by items
* * and *
At this pace I will never fish the list. I inform her that once a list has been started she is no longer allowed to add to it (that was a fun and informative conversation).
We have now agreed that she is now allowed to start a new list but not add to the current list.
