The SecretPosted Jun-13-08 12:52:33 PDT Let me share a little story with you. My daughter came home from her final softball game in tears. Why was she crying? She got pulled after the 2nd inning and it was her Senior game. While there is no crying in baseball, there is obviously crying in softball. But realistically, the Coach wants to play his best players and for as hard as she tries, she just doesn't have the same ability as do some of the other girls. eBay is the same way. Their focus is not on you, the seller, who pays ebay a fee. It is on the buyer. They only get a fvf if the item sells. And they don't care if you sell it or someone else sells it. The Coach doesn't care if your kid bats or not. He just wants homeruns. And, with Best Match, they are making the focus all the more important. 80% of all buyers are not going to change the default Best Match feature. And most will only look at the top 10 results. It's too overwhelming for the buyer. So what to do? The key is to write the best title you absolutely can to raise your position in search. If you want to play ball, you want to make sure you get up to bat. But what is the best title? There in lies the secret ebay doesn't want you to know. But I will tell you. Type in labs.ebay.com in the url box (do not type in www) now click on bayestimator Type in a couple of search terms. I'll use Eileen Fisher as an example. Type that in the box and click on the select box. Now select Eileen Fisher from the box on the left and click on it. You'll now see, on the next page, a box in the center with big green dots. These are the key words you need in your title to raise your search standing. The top one is nwt. Let's say your item is used. You can't use it. But look further down the list. See the word cotton? If your item is cotton, it is a hot button word for best match. It is imperative that it is in your title. Is it a cardigan jacket? Better put cardigan in the title. As the dots get smaller, so does the best match interest. If it has a red dot, don't wast title space on it. Use that word in your description. A gray dot only if you can't figure out other words to use. Don't limit yourself to those words. But realize that your title is your very first line of defense against an item not selling. The better your title, the higher your ranking. Yes, it takes time but it is time well spent. Now go out there and hit a homerun. Happy selling!
