Record oil prices, inflation concerns and tension in the Middle East combined to send gold to a four month peak today. At the time of this email, Gold is trading at $965.80 on the New York Spot Market, a gain of $18.60.

Crude oil reached a new record high of $145.98 per barrel as Iran fired test long range missiles for a third day and militants threatened additional action in Nigeria which may affect oil production.

According to an article from GoldSeek, Austrian Erste Bank, a leading Central European financial institution, reportedly advised clients that gold was "the crisis-proof metal" and "gold investors will encounter a highly attractive opportunity/risk profile in 2008 and beyond.... Passing $1,200 is the first target, and in the long run the price may well pass the inflation-adjusted all-time-high of $2,300."

The stock markets continued their slide as concern grows over the fate of the United States' two largest mortgage providers, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The government may be forced to rescue one or both of these companies according to articles in Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal.

Silver is also up significantly, trading at $18.87 a gain of $0.55.
