Rough Diamonds Part 2

The magical and mystical powers of diamonds.
Throughout history, kings and queens and commoners alike have been amazed at the beauty of rough diamonds and gemstones. Diamonds were believed to ensure happiness and health. Some people also believed that diamonds would help them conquer enemies and protect them from danger. In the earl 1600’s French and Italian kings thought that diamonds had some kind of supernatural powers to them so they were looked upon as talisman and often worn into battle. There was a time when rough diamonds were attributed to invincibility and anyone who wore a diamond would have greater strength and courage. Two very famous diamonds are the Koh-I-Nor diamond which originally weighed as a rare rough diamond of 186 karats. It came from India and the name means “mountain of light”. The diamond is now part of England’s famous Crown Jewels. Another famous diamond which as a rough diamond weighed 300 karats is the Orloff diamond which is now Moscow, Russia.

Rough diamonds Part 1

What is a diamond made of and how is it made. Diamonds are known for being the hardest natural substance on earth. What a lot of people don’t know is that even though it is the hardest and cannot be scratched by any other substance, it can still be chipped or broken if hit at the right angle. Rough diamonds are made up of carbon. Colorless or “white diamonds” are pure carbon. If there are other chemicals mixed into the rough diamond, then the diamond turns into different colors like purple, yellow also known as canary, orange, green, blue, and even red.
