iPhone 3G

iPhone 3G is finally here, a lot of people lining up at the store to get it.

Here is some facts about it:
-the price is $199, which is cheaper than the old version.

-the service plan is more expensive: $10 more per month for 2 years contract. $240 more.

-the phone has faster connections using 3G network.

-more functions: GPS, Exchange support, more App.

-Battery does not last long: some people say that from their test result the iPhone's battery power only last for 1 hour if using multiple functions at the same time. Also, using the GPS for 10 minutes could consume 1/3 of the battery. Standby time is about 100 hours.

-Apple's server has problem and takes a lot of time to activate the phone for customers.

-You must activate the phone plan with AT&T when you purchase the phone.

I am an iPhone fan, but since there are some problems with the battery, I think I will wait until they fix it. I use the phone all day long and I need it's battery to last at least 1 day.

Does anyone get the iPhone 3G? Please share your experience with us.

Easiest to use handset ever, in fact, it's not really a handset, it's a mini pc so one could argue that battery life issues aren't so much of an issue considering the processing power under the hood. Oh and the app center where you can download any number of different apps should keep you occupied for hours, back to battery life, it is possible the testers only had access to a beta operating system silimar to the 2G one, I believe the new os consumes a lot less power.

Oh one thing more to consider, it's not a bad effort for the second model of handset they've ever produced, Nokia and co have been at it for many years and to be honest Apple are damn close to changing the way all other handsets are made, not bad for second outing really.

My 2G iPhone works very good too. I am very happy with the performance and all the App I downloaded. I really want to get the new 3G one. Battery life is the only concern I have. My 2G iPhone usually needs to recharge every day because I use the email all day long. So I really need the 3G iPhone to last at least 1 whole day.

Dear mattwmouse, can you please update us on the battery life? Thanks.

One thing I find out is that if you run a program in iPhone, it will stay running in the background even you leave that program. When you have a lot of programs running in the background, it drains the battery much faster. The only way to solve this is install a program which can shut down unused programs.

If Apple can put in video recording feature and SD card slot, then the iPhone will be perfect. But still iPhone is the best cell phone for me. Just hope Apple can put in these features in the future.
