I like painting the different effects light has on horses. In this painting, you can see how the hot light of the sun has almost washed the color out of this buckskin's coat. You can feel the heat of the day. Horse art, Oil painting, "Baby Face". Foal with Mare.Posted Jul-31-06 12:57:56 PDT This painting is done with a limited palette of three colors. Vermillion, French Ultramarine Blue and Yellow Ochre. I never would have believed I could paint like this, so easily. The trick seems to be, to simplify the palette! Why has it taken me so long to discover this? I've always wanted to be able to paint like Charlie Russell, the great Montana artist. I feel like I'm on the track of what I've always wanted.donnaMoonlight Sonata, ACEO horse painting in colored pencil.Posted Jul-31-06 08:23:30 PDT ![]() I came to my desk this morning to find this drawing of a horse sitting in a forgotten spot. I don't remember when I drew this little guy or what plans I had for him at the time. So I put him on an ACEO card and invented some moonlight for him to stand in. When I was growing up, my horse, Lucky, was my best friend. I'd sneak out my window in the night to go see what he was doing. Most of the time, I stayed with him until morning, sleeping on his broad back. Sometimes he'd wake me up when he moved, grazing along, or if he laid down or stood up, it would wake me up. I was real comfortable on that horse's back. I think remembering those times, made me want to paint this horse in the moonlight. He'll be for sale today, starting this evening, in my store. He has beautiful multi colored patches on his coat too. It's hard to tell what color he might become. I'm guessing a bay. ![]() Oil Painting, ACEO, Eye of the GypsyOil Painting ACEO, Two colts and a mare.
