Archive - August 2006 Yuppo experiment. ACEOPosted Aug-30-06 16:46:58 PDT ![]() I was trying out Yuppo paper. It's a plastic paper, really slick stuff. I liked the way the oil paint went onto it, it was really different than paper that has some "tooth" to it. Reminded me of the days when I was painting on saw blades. I'd grind them smooth and paint on the primed surface. After I painted this, I turned my brush around and drew into the wet paint with the end of the handle. I still wanted more texture in the painting after that, so I drug my stiff bristled brush around in a few places. I painted on the bright orange side of the Yuppo. Mustang aceo. A horse in the light.Posted Aug-30-06 05:43:02 PDT
I was painting the light in this one. I've changed from painting on a primed red surface back to painting on the white of the canvas. I like the way I can catch the light this way. I tried the other way, as an experiment but it seemed I could never get this nice clean looking light. Murphy 'n Class, Walkin' Along. The land in these paintings is my favorite place on this earth. It's west of Dupuyer, Montana, along the Rocky Mountain Front. Swift Dam is there, along with the trailhead into the Bob Marshall. These paintings are both tiny, 2.5X1.5 inches in size. There's no space around them. They're oil paintings on canvas. Posted tonight on my auctions for $4.99 Elk ACEOPosted Aug-28-06 16:17:40 PDT ![]() Fall is coming and hunting season is just around the corner, it must be time to be thinking about elk! Horse ACEO, pintoPosted Aug-28-06 08:33:31 PDT I do a lot of horses grazing. That's because that's what horses do best, eat! If you've ever owned them, you know it's true. :) Donna Mustang's Muzzle, ACEOPosted Aug-27-06 17:06:21 PDT ![]() A while back, I did a painting called "Murphy's Muzzle". He has a pink nose. I wanted to do a horse's nose where the nose was more grey. So I did this one and called it the Mustang's Muzzle. Another MurphyPosted Aug-27-06 16:03:08 PDT ![]() If you go to my about me page, and click on the link that says latest paintings, you'll find my blog. On the blog, it tells a story about Murphy and why I like painting him. Just in case you might be interested. Brownie's Eyes, ACEO, Oil paintingPosted Aug-27-06 13:15:17 PDT ![]() Another painting with two eyes showing. This horse, is a dude horse near Augusta, Mt. He was in the road one day when we were in the Benchmark area. He was so pretty and he was really tame. I could hardly take his picture because he wanted to stand so close to me. In my mind, I named him Brownie. Murphy's Eyes, another in the Murphy series!Posted Aug-26-06 17:41:45 PDT ![]() I've been playing around with the idea of painting just this much of the horse's face for a long time. I don't know why I didn't just jump in and do it. They fit just right on an aceo card and you have two eyes looking at you instead of one, like most horse paintings are. It's kind of fun! Donna Buck's Eyes, Buckskin horse, ACEO oil painting.Posted Aug-26-06 11:54:33 PDT ![]() Can't stop doing the buckskins. This horse belongs to my cousin, he's almost as photographic as Murphy, I've done several paintings of him also. His name is Bunch as he's built like a Sherman tank! One of those Quarter Horses with the big huge rear end on them. He could easily be a roping horse for elephants. Another from the Murphy series. ACEO oil painting.Posted Aug-25-06 17:02:10 PDT ![]() Here I am painting Murphy again. I like his face and the look of an attitude he has. It was also fun painting his blaze, half in sunlight and half in shadow. Murphy in the trees. ACEO, Oil painting.Posted Aug-25-06 12:04:03 PDT
I was playing around with wild color on this one. Making the green light cast from the trees show up on the horse to create it's form. It's pretty wild when you see it up close, but at a distance, it just looks like a brown horse under the trees. It was fun to do it this way. He'll show up in my store on an auction tonight. Donna Paint horse walkin' away, ACEO, Oil PaintingBay running along the Rocky Mountain Front. Augusta, Mt.Posted Aug-23-06 07:42:08 PDT ![]() I placed my horse Class, along the hills above Augusta, Mt. This is below the Benchmark area, above Pishkin Resevoir. I greened the pasture up a little more than it really is right now! Airplane Ears2 horse aceo'sPosted Aug-22-06 15:57:32 PDT
The sorrel horse was grazing in the Bob Marshall Wilderness. The mountains are steep there and I liked the way he was stretched out on the hillside to get the sparse grass. Buckskin grazing 4, ACEO, oil painting.Classy Runnin', ACEO, Oil PaintingPosted Aug-22-06 06:43:01 PDT ![]() We took the horses back to the mountain pasture Saturday. We have two acres here and that isn't much room for keeping a horse, let alone two horses. You can tell Classy was glad to be where she had some room to stretch her legs! We'll miss her and have to go see her often. As often as we can afford to buy gas that is! Donna In the Meadow with Mom, ACEO |
