Challenge Coin Association eBay Blog

I welcome any and all collectors of Challenge Coins to talk about your coins here, or in the Challenge Coin Association eBay Group.

I will start it off. My favorite Challenge Coin (pictured below) was awarded to me by HHB 1-102nd Field Artillery Forward, after my year in Iraq.  I have an extra for sale on eBay.  You can check out the auction by clicking on the link.

What is your favorite coin?  How did you get it?

Sincerely,

Doing a great job on eBay! Your eBay group and eBay Guide are outstanding and your posts on the Historical Memorabilia board are excellent. Sorry, but I don't collect the coins but do follow the discussions that you take part in and try to take an interest in the field. Are there any available through MCSS that you think are a good investment? What about the MoH Challenge Coins on eBay - are they worth the investment or are they more similar to novelty items? Again, congrats!

If you're interested in official military medals, you might visit my blog - http://blogs.ebay.com/tsa-li.

Hello tsa-li,

It has been awhile since we last chatted about AAFES POGS. They aren't exactly flying off my shelves, so I haven't taken up your advice on how to acquire more. It is nice to hear from you again though.

When you inquired about buying Challenge Coins through MCSS, I can't help you because I'm not familiar with that acronym. If you meant to say MCCS, I am willing to bet that yes, the Marine Corps does have them for sale. USMC Challenge Coins are harder to find and command a higher price.

About MoH coins. I wouldn't recommend as an investment unless you can find one for a couple dollars. Since I have been buying wholesale, only once have I gotten a Medal of Honor Challenge Coin. Currently I still haven't decided if I am willing to part with it. I will probably just hold onto it for a few years in my display. Then I can get back to you and answer your question about what kind of an investment it was. I believe it would be a better collectible than investment though.

Thanks for the tips! MCSS = Military Clothing Sales Store, usually located in or near to AAFES (Army & Air Force Exchange Service). After we talked about POGS, I went to the cashier of the local AAFES and got some and researched them on eBay. Found complete mint collections with the start price below face value so that raised a bunch of flags and I dropped it. I was curious about the MoH coins and you helped, thanks! In this area, no one seems to be too interested in challenge coins and it still is an oddity when one is handed out during an official ceremony. I'll keep reading your comments since the field does seem interesting but I just haven't got bit by the bug yet. Again, thanks!!

Hi again! Just wanted to mention that AAFES has a special catalog just out: "Military Gifts & Collectibles" that has over 2 full pages of items associated with US military challenge coins. In case you haven't seen it yet and are interested, email me & I can send you some scans. Also - read your post in the Discussion Boards (I won't post there anymore) but I think it's just a slow period, lots of complaints now. Hopefully you made it over to my blog - I try to add to it regularly. Later.

No, I haven't seen the AAFES catalog. I will have to check out the Challenge Coin section.

Yes, I have been having a problem selling my military patches. The summer hasn't killed the sale of Challenge Coins though. Apparently we shop no matter what the time of year it is.

I have been to your blog. Not recently though. I will have to stop by again soon.

I used to work in a certain place that saw alot of high ranking people. As I result I have many coins from top generals, civilian officials and top army leadership. also alot of coins from commanders of eastern seaboard military medical facilities. What do you think the general worth of these coins are as they are not "comoomn" and many are named with top folks?

Hello dontlikestores,

Lesser known High Ranking Generals or officials authentic coins would typically bring about $30-40 each in my opinion. Famous ones can go well over $100. You have probably seen the posts by Kevin in the Challenge Coin Association eBay Group who is writing the book on the subject. He could help you out much better on this particular question.

Hello, I am writing a book on JFK which will include the JFK Challenge Coins. As of yet, I have been unable to obtain a
JFK Commander Coin or a photograph of the same.
If anyone out in CC Coin-land has one for sale or a photograph
I could use in my book, I would like to hear from you.
Credit would be given in the published volume.
Thanks to all,

Hello photouc & nfpd_lost

I recommend you make these posts at the Challenge Coin eBay Group linked at the top of this blog. Most questions get answered there. This blog doesn't get very much action.

Challenge Coin Association gives more than just coins. As President of Challenge Coin Association, I have started a program called DVDs to the Desert. I only have so many DVDs to give away. I need your help. America needs your help!

I’m sure you thought of how you can give back to those that are fighting for our country. Everybody wants to do their part. Well, in my experience, the typical care packages are a nice thought. But they are way too overwhelming. A lot of it ends up getting thrown away.

What the troops really want are DVDs, to help them unwind after a long day in the hot sun. Good DVDs are hard to find overseas. I’m sure you have some sitting around that are collecting dust.

Challenge Coin Association can help you, help those that serve.

Details can be found at http://ChallengeCoinAssociation.org/DVDs.html
