Archive - August 2006 Back Pain is getting the best of me!!Posted Aug-29-06 19:52:52 PDT I've been dealing with back pain for the past month. Went over to my son's to meet up with the plumbing guy, as my son was at work. His a/c wasn't working, and the hot water always smells like rotten eggs. Well, the guy needed me to go down to the basement and show him which hot water heater was his, as this is a duplex. I must've twisted or taken the goofy stairs wrong, cuz I could barely move the next morning. My back hurt so bad. In three days time, it was unbearable, my husband took me to the emergency room. After two shots of demeral, which didn't touch it, they did x-rays and said no broken bones, you must've pinched a nerve. They sent me home with pain pills and muscle relaxants. Now it is a month later....I'm so swollen around the back area, and my ankles look like those blow up floaties you put on your 4 year old's arms so they don't drown in the pool!!! FINALLY, I was told today, you need an MRI as you may have a disk out!!! Wonderful!!! So I go tomorrow for that. But why did it take a trip to the ER and 6 doctor appointments for them to finally listen to me and do something about it, rather than prolong it with meds that only cover up the problems, not solve them? Our doctors and hospitals should try to help you the first go around..and not have you coming back 6 times before they actually do their jobs!!! What a racket....that is where the money is at...not Ebay....the medical profession!!!! Anyway...If I have to have back surgery, AGAIN, I will not be listing anything for awhile. I think I have like 12 items listed right now, and hopefully they sell, so I won't have to relist them 6-8 weeks later!!! I did what so many of you suggested...did group listings rather than individual ones. Hopefully this is the key to ebay success!!! If not, oh well..... So please, everyone cross your fingers and toes that I don't have to have yet another back surgery. (I've already had three of them...they are no fun at all)....say a little prayer for me, so I can start to feel human again!!! Thanks!!! HAPPY BLOGGING!!! Ebay vs Garage SalePosted Aug-26-06 10:04:24 PDT At what point do you say enough is enough and just have a garage sale instead of listing your items on ebay? Lately I've had to list multiple items two and three times because they just don't sell! They are nice items, and in great condition! Similiar items sell all the time for alot more than my starting prices! Each time you list something ebay charges you for listing fees. Heaven forbid if it doesn't sell, and yet there are 5-20 watchers! You could list an item worth $30 for a mere $2.99 and it will have a ton of watchers, but no bids. Then you relist it, incur more listing fees, lower the price down to $1.99, and still only watchers, no bids. Then you think third time is a charm, list it at $.99 cents, and whammo....you have 15 people bidding on it.....it goes for anywhere between $5.00-$15.00, depending on the item. And of course there are times it does only sell for $.99 cents. So, tell me, why didn't any of those bidders bid when it was listed the first or 2nd time? Now this item has cost me over $3.00 in listing fees. Then if it only sells for a mere .99 cents, I'm in the hole. Even if it sells at the $5.00, I'm still in the hole. There's more....they pay via Paypal, and paypal takes an additional .52 cents for receiving the money. (Based on total funds received including the shipping, not just the selling price) Now, it's still going to cost you the same amount to ship, so if you did have any small amount as profit, it's now gone! The handling fee covers the first listing, by the third listing, you are now in the hole by $5.00 and you still need to drive it to the post office, to ship it out. Ebay should reverse the listing fees if it does not sell, when you relist. Not just the insertion fees, but all the fees from the first failed attempt. As for Paypal, if the item itself sells for under $5.00, there should not be a fee. Or at least, only base the fee on the selling price, not including the shipping! The only ones that are making any money off my sales seem to be Ebay and Paypal, and the post office. So, What am I doing wrong? I have quality items up for sale, selling way below their worth....not to mention the occassional griper that questions every penny of the shipping and handling fees. They complain if the item is used, that it's not in NEW condition. Read the listing...used means used!! Get over it. Don't bid unless you really want it. I'm not out to gip anyone. I'm just trying to supplement my income, so we can make ends meet from week to week! An honest way of living!! All my hard work seems futile...you look at my feedbacks, all are wonderful, except for the one who would complain if you hung her with a new rope! One person getting out of bed on the wrong side can ruin your image, and ratings. Is it really worth the efforts if you are not a power seller? What am I doing wrong? My husband and friends say I'm just too nice and accommodating! I've always been that way, and feel if I change , just to make a buck, then I'm going against all I believe in! I still have alot of used items to sell, but do I bother knowing that in the long run, I'll be lucky to break even? Give me your thoughts on all this!! Thank you! |
