Hello everyone, I am writing you today to let you know about my son, Nathan Uzella, and his battles with a very rare form of lung cancer. Nathan is 25 years old, and my only child. Recently, Nathan had biopsy confirmed he had an extremely rare carcinoid tumor. After almost losing him while in his first surgery, we found the nation's top specialists for lung carcinoid and flew out there to have them look at Nathan. They wasted no time and quickly did what they had to to save Nate's life. They removed 2/3rds of his right lung, 40 lymphnodes, his 4th rib, and had to harvest his latisimus dorsey muscle from his back and put in place of the missing lung. This was a very delicate and sophisticated surgery. Carcinoids are very rare, but one like Nathan's even more so..as it started in his bronchular tube and metasticized from there. There have only been roughly 21 documented cases of this type worldwide. This type of cancer makes up only a fraction of 1% of all lung cancers. This is a non-smoking cancer. A small growing cancer that can take up to 10 years to come back...but when it does, and not caught in time, it can spread like wildfire. We just hope and pray that his intestines are okay, and his cancer does not return.
In the mean time, his medical bills are in excess of $300,000 and still mounting! He is in great financial need. Please show your support and help Nathan during this difficult time. We thank you for helping with our son's dilemma. Cindy Uzella
