Most Recent Posts Comic ConventionsPosted Jun-23-06 00:08:48 PDT I notice a lot of stuffs that were given out for free at conventions turn up on ebay almost as fast as I can say, "Now why would anyone need twenty copies of that poster?" In a free capitalist world, it shouldn't bother me, but it does. It bothers me that people who can't get to these shows on the first day, couldn't get what is rightfully theirs. I'm fine with people who take a couple posters knowing that one is to put on the wall and the other one is for his/her collection, but when I see people taking twenty copies of Wizard program booklet since it has a Jim Lee cover which means ea$y cash on ebay--it bothers me. What bothers me much more is to see free convention quick sketches give to "those who are seemingly fans" turns up on ebay with greetings like: "For Joe, all the best! Jim Lee" --Oh boy does that bother me!!! A gift is a gift, it should have personal meaning. Some of the best and also the most meaningful pieces I own were done for free--Thanks to Brent Anderson, Rick Leonardi, Michael Turner, (Koi, Marcus, Micah) Walt Simonson, Andy Kubert and many many others...I consider these gifts as an act of friendship and I love being a comic nerd because of these wonderful friends I get to know at these conventions! |
