Most Recent Posts What the.........????Posted Sep-03-07 21:04:18 PDT What in the world has happened that some less than spectacular guitars now are going for $100's of dollars. I remember back in '84, I was in a pawnshop in North Carolina, and there must have been 30 or 40 Les Paul's hanging around the place. Some were old, some were newer, but there wasn't one that went for over $400. I really wasn't in to Paul's at that time, but I bought a 1964 Gibson Melody Maker for $150. Nowdays a Teisko Del Crappo can cost a couple hundred. Here's a small list of axes I have bought thru the years and what I payed for them 1977 Gretch Broadkaster 7600 ~ $150 1964 Gibson Melody Maker ~ $150 1962 Gibson Melody Maker (mint) ~ $250 1979 Fender Stratocaster ~ $500 1982 Gibson Les Paul Standard ~ $500 1960's Gibson ES-175 ~ $300 1960's Kimberly 4 p/u ~ $50 1981 G&L F-100 series II ~ $250 1989 G&L ASAT Leo Fender signature ~ $800 1950's Harmony Monterey Archtop ~ $100 And so on, and so on. Alot of these guitars now go for 10x's what I payed. And they weren't all great, perfect axes, thier just guitars. Wood & metal & plastic & paint. No precious gems inbedded. No gold or silver adorning them. Just guitars. Anyway I'm starting to get mad now so I better stop now before I have a k'niptchin fit. Feel free to let out your pinned up hostilities about the guitar market on this Blog, if you so please. |
