Most Recent Posts Scammed by sherismedia / sherinhouston...Posted Jan-18-07 15:03:56 PST Updated Jan-18-07 15:06:36 PST The full story: On 11/27, I used PayPal to buy a single karaoke disc from seller 'sherismedia'. On 12/1, I used PayPal to buy 8 karaoke discs from seller 'sherinhouston'. During the month of December, I received 8 odd-looking karaoke discs from seller 'sherinhouston' and one completely destroyed karaoke disc from seller 'sherismedia'. I didn't realize until later that they were the same person. The first disc showed up, shattered in about 50 pieces. The seller hadn't bothered to send the disc in anything more protective than a single-ply manila envelope that had been cut to the CD's height and taped shut. I order karaoke discs a lot on eBay, and I have to say this was the shoddiest packing I have seen BY FAR. I contacted the seller and she offered to send a replacement. That was enough for me. Several weeks later, the lot of 8 finally arrived. Many of the discs claimed to be Sweet Georgia Brown ones, but... I own a lot of SGB discs, and I have never seen any that looked like the discs I received from this seller. I suspected that they might be bootlegs, made a mental note to myself never to interact with her again, and added her to my auction search exclusion list. The replacement disc still hadn't arrived. When I asked her about it at the beginning of January, she told me that, yes, she'd sent it, and didn't know why it hadn't arrived yet. A few more weeks went by. Finally, I opened a dispute with PayPal. She responded to it in an incredibly negative tone, telling me that I'd *'d myself out of a replacment disc, that she'd told me to return the disc (no, she hadn't), and that I should have bought shipping insurance (which she does not offer in her auctions). So, I guess her saying that she'd sent the replacement a few weeks earlier was a big ol' lie. It was today that I decided to do a Google search on her name and found some VERY interesting websites about scam information. I believe the information on those sites is why both of her accounts have been closed. The moral of this story: always Google someone before giving them your money. If a deal seems too good, it probably is. I am a karaoke DJ/host and cannot use bootleg CDs in my shows. |
