It all started early last year. I joined eBay as a newbie buyer; then my daughter got engaged! Well, she wanted origami cranes for decorations instead of live flowers, and I insisted that I would do them. The favors started out very simply: a crane nesting on top of a net pouf containing jordan almonds. Then I happened on someone's origami site on the web, and things started to get interesting. Now each favor is enclosed in a too cool five-siced box that closes to make a flower on top. I've created a clear matte circular sticker that goes on one side showing an outline of an origami crane behind the names of the bride and groom and the wedding date. There will be a pouf of netting, tied with ivory ribbon, and filled with jordan almonds, but the real prize in the box is the crane.I found beautiful pearlized paper in ivory, gold, and wine that the manufacturer sold in precut packages of 200 5-1/2 inch squares to use to make the cranes. Then, taking the basic idea from the other site, I anchored a strand of tiger-tail wire inside the crane in the center of its back, strung an 8mm bead between two 3-4mm beads, and attached the whole thing to a french wire earring hook. Now every guest will have a crane ornament! Of course, my cost for each one would probably put them in the category of "nice, but we don't want to pay that much!"Then came the jewelry! I made a necklace & earrings for my daughter to wear on her wedding day, and then I just went wild buying beads and making jewelry. Maybe I'll put some of what I've made on eBay and see if there's any interest. I could do the same with the cranes. There's still so much to do for the wedding, and my house is a wreck. Perhaps I'd best wait to start selling until after the weddidng. |
