Glass Block Lights

I've finally got my glass block lights together and up for sale. These are the nicest decorations I've made in a long time. I took a glass block, just like the ones used in some bathrooms or basement windows, put lights inside, glazed a graphic on the front and back and tied it all up with a bow and it looks beautiful. I just wish everyone could see them in person, I'm not the best person to use a digital camera.

I also have a short recipe for all of you muchroom lovers. Clean and slice 8 ounces of mushrooms, you can throw in some sliced onion if you'd like, and cook over a medium heat with about half a glass of water for about 7 or 8 minutes or until mushrooms are soft. The water should be just about evaporated. Add a dab of butter and some freshly grated Romano cheese, don't use the Romano/Parmesian mixture or it will come out stringy, just the Romano cheese and you'll have a delicious mushroom mixture in a slightly thickened buttery cheese sauce.

That's it for now. Be sure to stop by my store and take a look at the Glass Block lights.

Apple Pie Recipe

Okay, I promised a recipe and here it is. This recipe is for one of the best apple pies I've ever tasted.

1 frozen deep dish pie crust
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1/4 cup all purpose flour
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
2 tbsp of butter
1 large egg white
1/4 cup granulated sugar
2 tbsp cornstarch
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
3 lbss Grann Smith Apples, peeled, cored ad cut into wedges
1 tbsp fresh lemon juice.

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Thaw crust for about 15 minutes. In the meantime mix pecans, flour and brown sugar in a bown. work in the butter with your fingertips. mix until you get course crumbs and set it aside. Prick the bottom and sides of the piecrust with a fork and bake about 15 minutes or until lightly browned. brush the bottom and sides of the hot crust with a light coat of egg white.

Reset the oven to 425 degrees.

In a large bowl combine the granulated sugar, cornstarch and the cinnamon. Toss in the apples and lemon juice. cover the mixture with waxed paper and microwave for 12 minutes on high. Stir it halfway through. Spoon the filling into the crust and sprinkle the pecan topping over the filling. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes or until the topping is golden.

Cool and enjoy.

If you try this recipe I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Who knows what I'll have the next time. Check back often, I do have a lot of goodies and I plan to share them with you!

Talk to you soon, take care.

More Crafts

Well, I am getting ready to put my Little House Candles up in the inventory in my store. I've just come across a really cool craft. COOL do they say that anymore?  lol   Anyway, I not sure how many people have heard about the new glass block decorations, but I'll be putting those up in my inventory too, just as soon as I can get them made. I'll also be putting a lot of craft kits in my store. I expect to have most of this done in the next week or so. Time to get ready for the Fall season.

Fall, the time of the year that I love the most and it's 81 degrees here in Philadelphia at 6:15 pm. This is not good for all of us allergy sufferers. I don't want to see it get real cold, but I would like it to feel like fall.

I have a few recipes, which I plan to start posting tomorrow, which I would like to share with everyone. I have a really great recipe for apple pie. Maybe I'll start with that.

I know this post was a short one, but I'll be back with a recipe tomorrow. So, until then, take care.

Little House Candles

I don't know if any of you have heard of Little House Candles, but they are a very decent candle. When you finish burning them you can still smell the fragrance an hour afterwards. Well, I used to be a distributor and I have a few dozen left over that I don't know what to do with. So, I was thinking of putting them into my store as inventory. I'll actually be selling them below cost, just to move them out. I need storage room for other things. So, check my store http://stores.ebay.com/Kathys-Candles-and-Crafts periodically, to get the best deals.

Summer is over and the calendar says it's Autumn, but my desktop weather lists the temperature as 86 degrees. It's hard to get into the Autumn or Fall frame of mind when it's this hot. I love this time of year, especially the crafts and recipes that come with the Fall season. I have a whole bunch of recipes that I'm going to share with you, but not at this writing.

I will have more to write about in the days to come, but for now I'll sign off.

Talk to you all real soon. Take care.

Welcome!

I would like to welcome everyone to Kathy's Candles and Crafts blog. You won't find anything fancy here, I usually just type what comes into my head. I can tell you that you'll be seeing a lot of recipes and small craft projects. Some of the projects will be for kids and some for adults.

All of my recipes have been made by me before I post them, so the are edible. Also, I will have tried my hand at most of the projects and the one's I didn't, I'll let you know. Most of the little tidbit I'll be posting will probably be from surfing the web. I have a habit of collecting interesting little clips that I think will benefit someone.

Make Candles Using Wax Crystals

For my first post I'd like to post a small candle project, so here goes:

This is a good candle making project for children because it doesn't involve melting wax. Wax crystal candles are easy, inexpensive gifts for children to make and be enjoyed by all!
You can use just one color or several combined. I used Candle Magic wax crystals to make these candles.

Candle Making Tools

• Spoon
• Scissors

Candle Making Supplies

• Small glass bowl
• Red wax crystals
• White wax crystals
• Pre-waxed wick with wick tab

Wash and dry the glass bowl thoroughly. Place the pre-waxed wick in the middle of the bowl. Cut a small opening in the bag of wax crystals for pouring. Pour an amount of the white wax crystals into the bottom of the bowl to create the first layer of your layered candle. Shake the bowl gently to make the wax crystals level.

Cut a small opening in the bag of red wax crystals. While holding the wick in place, pour an amount of the red wax crystals equal to the first layer, on top of the white wax crystals. Using a spoon, smooth out this layer. If you were to shake the bowl like you did the first time to make the layer of wax level, you will disturb the first layer and the wick. Then you won't have nice, even layers.

Continue pouring and smoothing out your layers until the wax comes within 1/4" from the top of the glass bowl. Remember to hold the wick in place while you are pouring in the wax crystals so it will be centered when the candle is finished. Then you won't have to move it which will cause the wax crystals to be disturbed and you will have to smooth out the top of your candle. As you can see we have made this final layer bigger than the rest. You can either do this to give your candle a unique look or continue with the even layers. It is up to you, it is your candle.

Trim the wick to 1/4" above the top layer of the wax crystals

Light your candle and enjoy!

I hope you enjoy the project. I'll talk to you real soon. Take care all.

Kathy
