kat's thoughts and ramblings......

a pet peeve about ebay-ers

don't tell me i am the only one out there that feels this way..... absolutely can't stand when some big bidder comes in and outbids you ....only to turn around and separate a lot to resale for profits....... save the excitement to us collectors that really want the stuff.... go get a real job....or at least hunt the estate sales to bring here....
blue_wonder_beyond
That's the ebay style, you just got to learn to roll with the punches or outbid them.

If you don't want competition, you should buy at set price sales or walmart.

obviously if they bid enough to outbid you and STILL make a profit on the stuff, then you didn't bid anywhere near what a real collector would pay. Bid higher, ebayers will stop bidding once the price gets close to resale value

I would suggest a sniping software - this way no one can follow you and see what you are bidding on, it increases your odds of winning.

and alwats check the eBay stores as well - you would be surprised at what you can find with a BIN and therefore no waiting for the bidding to play out!

Once boughten we can do with it as we please.

Some folks make lot's to get a sale, and declutter, then someone can then turn their own profit.

It's the way of the buy and sell world.

Sometimes people put them in lots to save trouble listing it one by one. There is a better chance of selling it, and getting more lookers by selling it in a lot.

Let me understand this... you're upset because someone was willing to pay more than you did?

I hate being outbid by a sniper too, but I learned my lesson last New Years Eve. I wanted this beautiful blouse. No one had bid on it and it was in the last few hours of the listing. The opening bid was for $10... I bid $12... no bids came until the last few seconds and the blouse sold for $42... I would've paid that much!!! Now, when I bid, I put my max bid in. I wouldn't have lost the blouse if I had bid the $50 I was willing to pay!!!

Someone wanted it more and they got it.

The game here on eBay is to get it for the least amount you can, while the buyer tries to get the most they can. What buyers don't see is how many people are 'watching' an item. That blouse probably had 10 or 15 watchers... all waiting to bid in the last few seconds...

lol iiapco.

A neighbor of mine many moons ago, gave me lot's of clothes,I went thru them, took out all we could use,and passed them around to friends and family, then they came back to me,I was very grateful too.And when I had my yard sale,I put the rest of them in the sale.

My neighbor went nutty on me.

I was kinda surprised, but learned that day, when we give something away,or sell it even,it is no longer ours to do as we wish with it.

Actually, I completely disagree with you. This IS a real job for many, and they are doing EXACTLY what they would be doing if they went to the estate sale to make their winning bids on the LOT!

for instance people sell beads, well they buy the beads to make jewelry and resell. They buy jewelry parts, to make Jewlery and resell. some buy collectors items and fix them up and then resell. There is a lot of people who search all day long for good buys to resell them. Thats just the way it is for a lot of Ebayers.

Don't get me wrong, I do understand that when collecting, you are trying to complete something that is meaningful to you. But consider the fact that the seller who is offering up these items also acquired them somewhere. He is trying to make a profit by selling to the highest biddier (or in many cases, just trying to get some of his costs for the items back). So, of course, the seller is always happy to sell to the highest bidder regardless of whether the winning bidder intends to add the items to his collection or turn around and sell them to the next highest bidder. There is no harm or foul in this. It is exactly as it should be.

Perhaps the expectation to come in a win auctions "because you are a collector" rather than because you are willing to outbid the competition is the real problem. It is not so different from the sellers who try to get folks to "buy their stuff" because they are behind in their mortgage payment, have a medical condition, or what-have-you. eBay was designed to sell items that others want at the prices they are willing to pay. Once buyers and sellers understand that, they can get over the, "it's not fair" issues.

Many buyers do use sniping software to grab the items they really want at the very last minute. I don't, but eBay says it's OK. So, if that is the only way you can win the items you are after, perhaps it would be worth your while to investigate that.

I may be wrong, but I think most of you are confused about the post. I took it to mean that they got outbid at a live auction by an ebay seller who is going to take the items and sell them on ebay - not that they got outbid on ebay.
