The Painted Spirit

New things

I am in the process of making some handpainted postcards to offer for sale.
And I also have finished the first draft of a guide on digital art.
I have noticed that even now many people...including the artists themselves are very confused about digital art.
It ties into a local project to form an artists group for digital artists in Central Ohio, that I am involved in.
That idea sprang from a local gallery showing of digital work that I was part of.
I hope to be able to add to this endeavor by having the POV of someone who does both digital and traditional artwork.
I hope the guide I am writing will help more people understand the rather confusing world of digital art.
I have some concerns but I will approach the whole thing with an honest heart and I hope with some tact.
Have a great week, or what remains of it. Hey...have a great next week too!
I need to go get the cards done that I will post. I am limited on time.
I am starting school soon!
And ...well...I admit my short comings...I have a sculpture class, and I'm pretty darn intimidated by the idea.
It will take a lot of my attention and I'm not sure how much more new work I'll be able to do and sell in the next 6 months.

Sounds fun, though. Question, if you are open to one. Digital art - do you consider yourself an artist? I love graphic design and am very good at the creative part of it and choosing colors and shapes and fonts. But are you an artist? That is where I think I could never excel to the "top" in graphic design, because I am not able to draw worth "mm". But when it comes to having an artistic eye for balance and colors, I seem to shine. Just wanted to know where you feel you are. Artist or someone with a perfect color "pitch."

I don't mind a question at all.
I don't have any representational art here, but indeed I have a preference for realistic drawing and painting.
and my professional work has focused on commissioned portraits.
I would link you to some art but I don't know if I am allowed to here.
I have a link to my artwork on my ME page, and I am pretty sure that would not be misconstrued as trying to deal off of Ebay.
( just trying to follow the rules..if I am not, please someone let me know!)

As for digital art being art or not...this is why I am writing the guide. Many feel that the computer more or less does the work. There are ways to generate "art" by computer, but most digital artwork you see has to be made by an artist. My specialty, digital painting is done with a graphics table and stylus which will allow me to paint or draw inside of a program like Painter. The marks made are my own and I use the same principles, knowledge and skills to paint a digital painting as I do a traditional one.

Thanks for posing the question...the more people ask instead of wonder to themsleves the more people will know.

In a nutshell, though...yes, I am a professional artist who can draw.
I am enrolled into the Academy of Art University as a freshman in order to fully realize my professional goals of being an illustrator as opposed to a commissioned portrait artist.
I do anticipate acing the drawing classes....if I may be so immodest to say so.

One last thing. If you are interested in learning to draw...and I believe anyone can learn. Try online books available in free PDF format by Andrew Loomis. Google will help you find him. He is an illustrator from the 20's- the 60's who wrote some of the best ever books in his lifetime for learning to draw. The writing style is from that era, but the info is GREAT, the lessons work, and the books are free.

"As for digital art being art or not...this is why I am writing the guide."

clarification...that is ONE reason I am writing it. Not THE reason.
