NostalgiaPosted Apr-20-08 07:38:32 PDT I’ve bought 21 Barbie’s this month. My collection is well on its way. I have no where to display them at the moment, but I’m moving this summer and plan on designating a bookshelf to my collection. I’ve had a rough time defending my collection. My room mate thinks it’s weird that I have never stopped collecting toys and I’m 25. Visitors think that it is bizarre that I have the collection because I’m a pretty vocal feminist and they associate many negative ideas with Barbie. My defense is: that it is a toy that I loved as a child. Barbie didn’t give my an unrealistic body image to model after. She didn’t give me the idea that I need to be a housewife, or have only a traditionally female career. She was the center of this beautifully creative world. Barbie allowed me to be an Architect, a Fashion Designer, an Interior Designer, and a Movie Director. |
