The team at the Kernow Oils managed to raise over £300 for the Children’s Hospice South West’s Precious Lives Appeal with support from Castrol who supplied all of the items for the prize draw and their customers who generously took part in their fund raising initiative. Mark Adkins, Director of Kernow Oils commented “We have been having a stand at Royal Cornwall for the past 15 years. It has always been an ideal opportunity to offer hospitality to our new and existing customers and their families and our stand is often used as a base for our customers to ‘go forth’ from and ‘return to’ for refreshments. Sales of Lubricants have always been good at the show but this year we really saw an increase in our Oil Spill clean up and Oil Containment side of things. I think that everyone now knows someone that has had a visit from the Environment Agencies inspectors so can now no longer ignore their legal obligations to comply with the The Control of Pollutions (Oils Storage) (England) Regulations 2001. We first heard about The Precious Lives Appeal on Radio Cornwall and having recently lost a very young family friend to cancer this is one very close to our hearts. It a very sad state of affairs that families and terminally ill children from Cornwall have to travel over 100 miles up to North Devon in order to access this type of support. Offering respite and emergency care for children with life limiting and life threatening conditions in a purpose designed environment gives the children and their families’ time to just be a family and enjoy each other for the precious time that they have. The price increases of all oils including petrol and diesel show no signs of slowing down and seasonal traffic here in Cornwall can often turn a one hour journey in three which is very hard on anyone who is ill. Having a hospice closer to home will enable more families here in Cornwall to benefit more regularly from the medical, practical and emotional support that the Children’s Hospice South West Hospices can offer. We will continue to support this appeal. Castrol are one of the sponsors of Euro 2008 so we do have some Euro 2008 merchandise left over from the prize draw which we will be listing in our ebay shop with all proceeds from those auctions also going to the appeal”.
