I hide nothing AKA My Nightmare Before Christmas! AKA Ways to right a bad transaction and make EVERYONE HAPPY!!!

I consider myself a very fair seller.  I work with my buyers to try and make them happy if the auction doesn't go as planned.  And the proof is in my Feedback.  Here are ALL my neut/negs.   I hide nothing:

First one and only one from a buyer.  It was the one time I attempted to use one of those "drop ship" services and it back fired on me BIG TIME!  So I offered to either refund her money or send her something else comparable and worth a bit more.  She left a neutral:

Didn't have item, offered something else.

I deserved that!  Live and Learn. :0(

First Neutral from a seller.  Item was exactly what I asked for.  However, after asking him to send it to my friends... and he agreeing... he sent it ME!  I then had to pay for the shipping to send it on to her.  Head ache, but I only left him a neutral.  After responding to his feedback, I guess he felt guilty about the situation and refunded all my money.  Very sweet.

If item was ok, why leave Neutral??????

THIS ONE... man... ok.  MY FIRST and ONLY negative!  And I go it not because I didn't pay IMMEDIATELY... no.... but because I told the TRUTH!! Go figure. Item was really cheaply made... but THAT was not my complaint nor was it part of my FB.   No, the toy itself, although cheaply made, was fine for the most part. It arrived sealed, brand new and my daughter loved it... AFTER I aired out the reakin' smoke smell! It took me a WEEK to get the smell out!  But once that happened, my daughter loved it! (kids are easy to please) So no, I didn't want to return it for a stinkin' refund.  My daughter wanted the item.  So I left a neutral to warn others of my experience.  No, I didn't email him.  Nothing he could have done would have fixed the situation.  I didn't want to return it.  Sometimes Returns aren't the Answer... something many sellers NEED TO LEARN!!!  That and leaving retalitory feedback does nothing but scream to buyers "TAKE MY ITEM AND SAY YOU LIKE IT OR ELSE!!!"  If brick and morter stores had this practice they would go out of business.  My firm belief in Karma proved true on this one however... Very next day, he got his first ever Negative from ANOTHER buyer who bought the same set I did and didn't like how cheap it was OR the bad smell that eeked out of it!  LOL

POOR COMMUNICATION! Send emails if not happy, NOT NEUTRALS!

AND LEAST but probably not the last..... My current Nightmare Before Christmas!
I went looking for a replacment leappad on eBay and found a seller that had 2 for an awesome price!  Not only that but she had a shipping deal... buy $25 worth of stuff and shipping was on her. YEAY!  So I went shopping.  Got the 2 leappads, 2 books and a fastener learning baby doll  for my kids.  They were a pre-Christmas suprise!  It was a cool deal.  More than I would have normally paid for a couple items normally, but with the deal I got on the whole package and the shipping.... all was worth it.  Her feedback seemed great! No negs. No Nuets.  Seemed very friendly.... ya ok. NOT!!!

Box showed up and at first all looked good.  But as I was checking out this potentially cool boardbook called "Granny's Purse."  (Had seen one before and it was very cool!!!) I realized all was not good.  Now mind you, I am ok with not so perfect items, but if you dont disclose said imperfections, THATS MISREPRESENTATION!!!  AND ITS WRONG!!!  ok... so I was checking out the book when I noticed some of the parts were missing!  Oh Uh..... and then in the box I see a few loose pieces.  Loose pieces that should NOT be Loose!  They were cardboard Board Book Bits that should have still attached.  Now if you have never seen this book before, its a purse shapped book collage of hinged pull outs, attached bits of fabric and such to represent things found in a purse... in this case a pack rat like grandma.  All is sandwiched in this purse like book.  VERY COOL.   Now, in the auction it says the velcro is faulty.  No big.   But loose parts floating in box?  Not good.  This book was obviously ripped by hands.  So I think Ok, maybe I mis read the auction.  I go back and look... noooo.  So I think, ok, she must have missed the pieces.  Maybe her kid ripped the pieces and just stuck them in the book and they shook loose in shipping.  No big.

So, I email the seller and praise her for the cool toys my kids just went nuts over and let her know about the book and how I am not so thrilled about it.  And then I give ample opportunity for her to attempt to make it right or atleast get an apology for messin' up.  I'm easy enough to please... just like my kids. lol

LONG email series short, she basically tells me she "quickly glanced" at the item as it was going in the box and It was NOT broken when it went in... ok.  How would you KNOW??  The loose pieces were probably IN the book when you "quickly glanced" at it and shook out in shipping.  Considering how loose everything was place in the box, I wouldn't be suprised!   But there is NO WAY the folded and tucked BOARD BOOK pieces were RIPPED in SHIPPING!!!  But THANKS for insulting my intelligence!

So now I have a seller so full of herself she thinks she can do no wrong.  And her only offer to right things is to have me return it and refund my money.  Ok.  I paid about the same amount it would take to ship back.  NOT WORTH IT!!!   All that would come from that would be a cryin' little boy who is already attached to this book... missing pieces or not.  But that isnt the point!!  I bought a misrepresented ITEM!!!  And that is WRONG!!!  But do I get an apology?  Do I get an admittance to her MISTAKE?  NOOOOOOoooooo!!!!  And YES, wether she wants to believe it or not... I have let go mistakes by sellers like this with a simple... "I am really sorry!"  WHY?  Because I sell too and I KNOW mistakes happen!  But after her email stating IT WAS FINE when she put it in and that she wouldn't do anything more than Refund w/ Return because it HAD to have happened in shipping.... it was all about the principle of the matter!!!

Now even THEN, I remain kind about it.  I took several days to ponder my Feedback.  I rushed nothing!  I decided to leave positive feedback for all the other items.  Then I left neutral for the other:

Item Arrived Damaged During Shipping; Buyer wanted to Keep Item and A Refund
Reply by kidlit: Miss Rprsntd Board bk ripped PRIOR 2 S&H Vry Obvious! Retalitory FB Shame on U!

After all was said and done I had yet another neutral.  But all in all I believe it was WORTH it.  Sometimes you have to dare to tarnish your FB numbers to get  the truth out!  I think its BS that sellers hold feedback hostage!  No one should feel AFRAID to tell the truth about their experiences with buyers/sellers in their FB!!  I only got a neutral because I told the TRUTH and warned others of her tactics!  She misrepresented that book.  Wether by mistake or on purpose, that was a bad on her part.  One she should have taken the time to fix.  AND NO, only giving the option to return an item for a refund is NOT the only thing you can do to work things out with a buyer!!!  If you as a seller read this and get NOTHING ELSE.. LEARN that THAT IS  NOT the only way to fix a transaction!!!  THERE ARE OTHER WAYS!!!

WAYS TO FIX A BAD TRANSACTION:

* Return for Refund (only if they paid substantially MORE for the item than they would to ship it back!!!!!)

* Issue a Partial Refund WITH OUT the headach of a time consuming monetarily breaking even return!

* TRYING SAYING YOU ARE SORRY (even if you didn't do cause the issue!!  Its called GoodWill!)  It keeps your customers coming back and often profits in a positive EVEN WHEN YOU MIGHT OTHERWISE NOT DESERVE IT!

* Offer something else in lieu of or in addition to (ESP if you realize your item is not what you stated it was in the auction after the fact and before you ship it.)

* Just refund the money.  Yeah, all of it.  There have been times the buyer has been so sweet and I have felt so bad for the mistake or shipping mishap that I have just bit the big one and refund all their money... Selling Price and S&H!

* Offer a discount on another item or some other kindness!!

Some eBay sellers have lost site of whats important.  The money!  Ya, I said money.  And while they might THINK they are doing well by their current ridged "my way or the highway to neg fb" ways,  all it does is insure that they don't get return customers that then save them to their favorites, tell their friends and give raving positive FB that inturn tell OTHER potential buyers that they are well worth buying that high priced item from becuase they are a seller that cares and will do what ever they can to make your purchase/transaction a positive one with out headaches!

ok... I am done ranting.

And to tubble_of_bubbles, I say: Thank you for the Nightmare before Christmas!

Ps to this:  Tubble email me informing me that she has another eBay identity with well into the 1000s in positives!  Figures.  Alter Egos should not be aloud with out links that connect them in Bold Colors on Their FB pages!!!  Probably loaded with negatives and neutrals too.  Why else would you hide behind another nic!  She didn't tell me what it was... of course not.  But if anyone has anyway to figure it out, please let me know.  I would LOVE to see her FB on THAT one!

I don't care HOW long you have sold on eBay.  I don't care how many PACKAGES you have shipped.  Wrong is wrong and no one is perfect!  Infact, the more you do at once, the more likely you are to mess up.  Slow down.  Check your stuff.  Accept that even THEN you might mess up.  And if you do... DEAL WITH IT!!!
