It is called The Black Rose and Other Poems by C. Horatio Warrick. Copyright 1935 from the Raymond Youmans Publishing Co. Kansas City Kansas. On the inside of the cover it is signed, To a Girl Like You Alberta from me C. Horatio Warrick 6-16-35. There is a small picture of a black womans face inside of a black rose on the dedication page. The dedication reads To that portion of humanity that gives so much, asks so little, and recieves the least-The Black Girl- I dedicate this volume. The Author. An excerpt of the foreword says, I consider it no slight honor to be permitted to offer this foreword to a work that reveals the Muse speaking thru an ordinary toiler for the hight realm of the spirit. Despite many obstacles, Mr. Warrick has achieved a new note in the interpretation of Negro life and literature. H.O. Cook. The poems have touched my heart, at times causing tears to flow while reading them. Can anyone help me find out more about this book? I tried Google to no avail.
