Some Thoughts.....Posted Jun-02-08 14:06:49 PDT I just read a blog with a particularly disturbing comment. Said comment contained a very racially offensive epitaph. I am one of those people who literally cringe when I hear that particular word. I even cringe when I see it in simple print. I live in the south, believe me, I hear that word more than I can stomach at times, yet each and every time I do hear it, I voice my own opinion about how reprehensible I find racial slurs to be, of any kind. Oh, yes, I have been sworn at, cussed out, even called a *lover* of that particular word. I don't mind, and I don't even get mad or upset when called profane names, for you see, none of it could disturb me as much as I feel disturbed when I hear another human being utter racial slurs. I will tell you this though....no matter how long I am on the face of this earth...I will never understand, nor accept such pure bigotry. I have been surprised at some of the people that I have come across on my journey through this life , who think it is perfectly acceptable to refer to another person in a racially derogatory manner. I have had lengthy conversations with many people here in the south, some of whom feel that racial epitaphs are perfectly acceptable, some of whom think they are reprehensible.....and I will tell you this......no matter how well educated some of these people have been, when it came right down to the issue of race, those who think racial epitaphs are perfectly acceptable, were the most pathetically ignorant, narrow minded people I have ever encountered. " Set in their ways " " a different generation" and " generations of bigotry " does not even begin to describe those people. Anyone, even those raised in the most racist environment can choose to educate themselves, or not. Make no mistake about this either : those who make excuses for their own or others reprehensible conduct, are only fooling themselves. There is no excuse, period. How can anyone justify using a racial epitaph? You can't. Spin it any way you desire, you simply can not. Just my thoughts. Have a lovely month of June ! ~ Kimberly
