Why Are Middle Easterners so Violent?

So my husband and I are watching "Kingdom" with Jamie Foxx last night and I proclaimed right out loud in the middle of the movie, "Why are they so violent and want to kill everyone?!!"  Ok, some nerves might be touched her but I just don't get it and would like someone to please give me some insight.

From movie/news portrayals and from some books that I have read, ie-Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns (both awesome by the way), the people from Afganistan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia all seem so religious.  They are always praying and saying "God be with you", and "peace be with you" but then, you cross them; they want to kill you.

This culture is so intriguing to me because of the fact that they preach love in one breath and violence in the next.  God is not about violence. He is love and peace.  Nothing gets accomplished with violence except for more violence.  How many more innocent lives will be taken because of this? Please people--stop fighting and start loving!

Well for one thing they do not believe "your" god is their god. They do believe that if you are not Muslim than you are a "infidel". They also believe that it their duty to carry out Jihad. By which the world will become Muslim. It is a scary religon. There is little freedom & any religon that claims that if you are not a part of it you are useless; it what I call a cult.

Look at our Christain history and wonder the same about us. I think it is just about evolving to some other place. We have sophisticated our killing to make it more user friendly or watcher friendly. We no longer cut off heads, we have much cleaner methods so we don't see the blood. Our God is their God. They believe a lot of what our Bible teaches, but look at Jesus as a prophet instead of the son of God. Find a Muslim group in your local area and get to know someone of that faith. I'm sure you will find they are mostly people just like us.

Are you kidding me? I don't think the movies and the media should be a basis for how you view a group of people. The media loves to show the extreme negative side of things...unfortunately violence and negativity sell more newspapers, movies and newscasts! I think the last set of comments left by winchuckriverstore are more accurate. Many of the beliefs are the same in many religions including Islam but have different names or rules. I don't think Chritianity is the "Ghandi" of religions either...we have done some pretty awful, violent things in the name of spreading "Christianity"...you just don't see as many popular movies about it lately. Let's not forget either that our country isn't the most non-violent, passive government out there exactly.
