Dzus Bolts - How to SelectPosted Apr-02-08 15:34:19 PDT I get many questions about Dzus bolts and the length of the bolts. Many people wonder how to select the right length or type. First off, the length that is posted on my listings (and many others) is the "Working Length" of the bolt. Many people ask me, why does a 12mm long bolt only hold 3 to 5mm total thickness. The reason is, The clip takes up 6mm of the total length and can move 1 to 4mm once engaged. With this, the grip length is normaly considered 7 to 9mm shorter than the Dzus/Panex bolt length. When you first engage your Dzus bolt, the bolt may seem "Short" with only 1 or 2mm of length to grip the teeth of the spring or rivet plate, the first engagement may be a bit difficult. Once you install the bolt the clip will adjust to be easier to latch. If your bolt is not very Snug from day one, in the future you may find your bolts becoming loose over time. KG |
