Label Lovers - Auction secrets revealed, come take a peek!!

Hey fellow ebayers and bloggers, just wanted to share any info with you all that may help you a little with your auctions!!

Included below, if you are not already aware of these so called ebay 'secrets', are ways to get unlimited free pics on your listings how to insert backgrounds and loads of other cool tit bits that may be of use!!

Here is the information –

For everything to work, you need to enter the below codes, which are HTML codes, into the HTML code entry box in Ebay, when you place your listing. Don’t worry – that sounds hard but it isn’t. HTML just means a set of characters which you use to create an advert which is what is used on web sites. You don’t need to work them out as I’ve listed them all below for you to copy & paste. ( to copy & paste, highlight the text you want to copy by dragging your cursor over it from the start of the text to the end of the text. Then, with the cursor over any part of the highlighted text, right click on the mouse & click on copy. Then go to the section/document where you want to ‘paste ‘ the copied text onto, right click the mouse again & select paste & hey presto – you’ve copied all the text from one place to the other !!

Normally, most people just type their words for their listing into the STANDARD description box when placing in a listing description on Ebay. However, next to the ‘STANDARD’ entry box, there is another entry field which says ‘ENTER YOUR OWN HTML’. This is where you put the codes - simple.

What you can do, if you want, is to write the listing in the normal way in the standard box, preview it, then go back in to amend the description. When you go back in, open this time the HTML box, and you will see that everything that you wrote has been converted by the Ebay system into HTML. You just need to copy and paste the appropriate codes in from the list below in the right places.

The codes for the MERLIN WIZARD, ANTI COPY ADVERT & CLOCK can be entered anywhere in the HTML box as they wont affect the position of your text or pictures, so probably best if you put them straight into the HTML box straight away.

Then – you can press the ‘STANDARD’ button & write your advert as normal. When you come to a bit where you want to add a picture, animation etc, then press the ‘ENTER YOUR OWN HTML’ button & copy & paste your appropriate code in as advised below.

If you have Ebay listings at the moment that have more than 12 hours to run, you can go in & change/add to them right now!! For example, you could copy and paste the non copying code in, save the changes, and then you will see that you cannot copy the text in your listing, after you have changed it.

Merlin the Wizard

Copy & paste the enter code in just changing the ‘YOU WRITE SOMETHING HERE’ to whatever you want him to say

2. To have text moving across the screen

Copy & paste the next code just entering what text you want where is says ‘YOU WRITE SOMETHING HERE’

<marquee direction=left behavior=alternate>you write something here</marquee>

3. Have pictures on your listing for free

To load photos in using HTML, you need to open a web based photo storing site to store your photos and it will give you the HTML code.

I use www.photobucket.com/login.php

Its free , just sign up, send which ever photos or gif images from your system onto photobucket, and you will then see the HTML code for each photo (the tag code.)

You then paste the code (tag) into your listings at the appropriate place, to put the pictures for FREE onto your advert. That way, you don’t need to add pictures in the normal way & you get them on for free!!

4. To have animated pictures for free on your listing just do the same as number 3 !!

5. To add a clock that follows the curser – just copy & paste the following into the advert (HTML) – you can put this code in anywhere in the listing – it wont affect the text postioning

<script language="JavaScript"><!--

fCol='000000';//face colour.

6. To stop people copying your advert just copy & paste the following code into the HTML – again this code can go anywhere

<script language=JavaScript>
<!--

//Disable right click script )
//Profitpacktoresell.com

var message="";
///////////////////////////////////
function clickIE() {if (document.all) {(message);return false;}}
function clickNS(e) {if
(document.layers||(document.getElementById&&!document.all)) {
if (e.which==2||e.which==3) {(message);return false;}}}
if (document.layers)
{document.captureEvents(Event.MOUSEDOWN);document.onmousedown=clickNS;}
else{document.onmouseup=clickNS;document.oncontextmenu=clickIE;}

document.oncontextmenu=new Function("return false")
// -->
</script><script type="text/javascript">

//

//form tags to omit in NS6+:
var omitformtags=["input", "textarea", "select"]

omitformtags=omitformtags.join("|")

function disableselect(e){
if (omitformtags.indexOf(e.target.tagName.toLowerCase())==-1)
return false
}

function reEnable(){
return true
}

if (typeof document.onselectstart!="undefined")
document.onselectstart=new Function ("return false")
else{
document.onmousedown=disableselect
document.onmouseup=reEnable
}

</script><META HTTP-EQUIV="imagetoolbar" CONTENT="no">

7. To stop people copying your ‘Word’ documents (ie – of you are selling Ebooks) then use this superb solution. Note – this is not for the Ebay advert – its just a way of preventing copying/edits of Ebooks on Word Documents

1. Write the document as usual.

2. When you finish writing the document, save it. Now save it as another document to make a copy of the original document. Why so? Read on to find out!

3. Move your cursor to the end of the document.

4. From Tools menu, choose Customise. A dialog appears listing available toolbars. If it is not already selected, choose the Forms toolbar by enabling the checkbox next to it. Click on close button.

5. Now you will see the Forms Toolbar

6. This toolbar allows you to make fill-in-the-blanks type of forms within a word document. We will not go into the details of these types of forms in this article. But for now, just click on the first toolbar button from left (where ab is written). The tool tip for this button is “Text form field”.

7. Now at the cursor a small grey patch will appear. This is the text entry form field.

8. Double click on this grey patch. A dialog will appear. In this dialog, clear the check box labelled “Fill-in enabled”. Close the dialog by a click on the Ok button.

9. The grey area will continue to appear. To remove the grey shading, click on the Form Field Shading button on the toolbar. Now the grey shading will disappear. In effect, the field is no longer noticeable.

10. Now all that you need to do is to protect the document. To do this, choose Tools - Protect Document... menu option. Another dialog appears.

11. Choose the Forms option and enter a password and choose Ok button. You will be asked to re-enter the password with a detailed warning. Take the warning seriously. Believe me, you yourself cannot edit the document if you forget the password! Now you know why I asked you to save the original document with protection. In case you forget the protection password (which all of us do very efficiently time and again ), you have a safe editable copy at hand!

12. Now, in order to prevent unauthorised access, choose File-Save As option and Select Tools - Security options tab to enter the regular Password to Open. This password should be different than the form protection password you entered earlier. The password to open will need to be communicated to the intended recipient. So the document protection password should be different.

13. Now save and close the document.

Nothing great seems to have happened yet. Actually it has, but it is not apparent. To see the magic, follow these steps:

1. Open the document.

2. Enter the password to open. The document opens as usual. Contents are seen.

3. Now try editing the document. Sorry, you can’t.

4. Try highlighting the text. No luck

5. Try select all from Edit menu, sorry again. The option is disabled!

6. Try all the things you can think of to select and copy the text. Sorry. Nothing works.

7. Try the Save As option. While saving as, you can of course remove the Password to open. But that is your risk because, you are making the document prone to unauthorised use. But yes, in our quest to make the document editable, let us try that also. Remove the Open password. Save it as another document.

8. Open this newly saved document and again try to select/copy the text. Sorry sir. Does not work.

8. The website to register your Copyrights is called –

www.copyrightservice.co.uk/register/

9. To have a picture moving left to right just do the same as for having text but instead of putting your text in, just copy & paste the code for the picture as below

<marquee direction=left behavior=alternate>the code of your picture here</marquee>

All of the above is very simple once you’ve played with it for a short while. Just keep using the preview button when writing the description & going from the STANDARD box to the ENTER YOUR OWN HTML box & you will soon get the hang of it

Some of the sites I use for the pictures are –

www.grsites.com

www.thewebdeveloper.com/animations/

and www.webmonkey.com (great for background colour codes in HTML)

However – now you know the secrets of HTML on Ebay – which is basically just get the right code for whatever you want from pictures to Wizards to colours, I am sure you can use www.google.co.uk to find the perfect thing for your advert

Also – if you want more HTML info – try www.kinem.com/kbuilder.html where you can enter codes & text & it will convert it ALL to HTML for you so you can save it & then just copy it all on to the Ebay description page in one go.

10. Watch this item

If you want to create a clickable link so that people can easily watch your item, here is the code, simply copy this html into your listing and where xxxxxxx add your auction number (you will have to submit the auction get the number then go back and revise, or schedule) and where it says ‘watch this’ change the text to whatever you like or if you want a clickable pic simply do the same as in no.3 above and replace ‘watch this’ with the html from photo bucket.

<a href='http://cgi1.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?MakeTrack&item=xxxxxxxxx'>WATCH THIS</a>

11. Backgrounds in your auctions

If you would like to add a background to your me page or auction simply copy the html from below, and replace ‘http://url of image’ with your url from your picture or background, found in photo bucket.

<TABLE WIDTH="100%" CELLPADDING="15" CELLSPACING="0" BACKGROUND=http://URL of Image>
<TR><TD>

………Type your auction content here……

Include these closing table tags after your entire auction description

</TD></TR></TABLE>

The best site for finding 1000’s of backgrounds is:

http://www.grsites.com/textures/

Simply save the background in photo bucket as described in no.3 but instead of the html code from the picture you need the url. Which will be just under the picture in ‘your album’

12. Adding music to your auction

All of these methods have been approved by eBay for SOUND CLIPS ONLY.

Be warned that a lot of people find music annoying and will just click the back button immediately!!

This is a clickable link that gives the user the option to hear the sound.

<a href="http://www.myhost.com/soundfile.mid">Click to hear it</a>

This method calls the sound player that may be on the user's computer. There is usually some sort of player on most machines. If there is no player, the user's computer may seem to lock up during the time it searches for one. In the end, it may ask the user if a player should be downloaded.

<center>
<EMBED SRC=
http://www.myhost.com/song.mid
HIDDEN=false HEIGHT=100 WIDTH=195
AUTOSTART=false LOOP=true>
</EMBED>
</center>

This method will fetch a player from Microsoft for Windows computers. This method will be rewritten and voided if it passes through eBay's description rewriter on the listing form. Do NOT touch the Standard tab or preview the code on the listing screen.

<OBJECT ID="Player" height="100" width="150"

eBay also approves of FLASH files for sound or images (but not for auction description). Here is a coding example of the OBJECT tag that automatically runs a Macromedia player from a remote site.

13. Adding counters to your auctions

Simply visit the site below and they will do the leg work for you:

And that’s it, if you need any more help feel free to contact me!!

This is a lot of info to take in but I'm sure there are parts of it that will aid you in saving a few pennies or making your auctions more attractive so just use the bits that suits you and your auctions.

I hope this helps and more importantly makes sense!!

PS if anything above doesn't work properly it may be because some of the codes don't work on blogs but get in touch and I'll email you a copy :)
