London With Children- What Were We Thinking

Baby Soleil is the culmination of a pushchair, a floral pink changing bag, a trip to London, and an unhealthy obsession for having our own business. As any guy knows, when you have children some how, some way you become the Sherpa. So with one child on my shoulder, one sitting on my newly bought olive drab WWII designed messenger bag, and one child in a pushchair, my wife and I ventured through London, seeking out all the treasures of the city.

Two blocks and ten different staircases later, my muscles were aching and I was done. The pushchair was practically useless. Every time we wanted to hop on the Tube, I would have to unload my toddlers and all of their gear, fold up the pushchair, carry it up and down flights of stairs, and through ticket gateways. We vowed that as soon as we got back home, we were going to find a child carrier that didnʼt have all of the annoying buckles and straps, and was easy to use. No more pushchair in crowded spaces.

That morning we had decided to load all of the babyʼs accessories into my bag, which I thought was cool, new idea. Here was a bag that looked some-what manly and functioned like a changing bag. No more embarrassing looks from strangers who were pitying me while I was carrying an oversized pink-lined beach bag, but the old-school messenger bag did not work. The top flap where we stored all of our tickets kept belching our stuff out all over the sidewalk, and the wipes case was no where to be seen for half of the trip.

The pink-lined beach bag had to go. Imagine going to the pub with that. It is not going to work, and as a Man we should not have to go through that kind of psychological pain. Men are fragile and we need a bag that will bring up our self esteem and confidence, maybe something with skulls and flames and a portable grill. Okay maybe not the portable grill, but something with design and passion. My wife knew that after our trip to London, she could buy some better gear without me complaining about the money. So she did some research and found an American website selling changing bags for men. Like a shining beacon sent to save me from my fashion hell, I did what all men would do, I didn't listen. But thatʼs okay because a week later, I saw a friend at work showing of his new DadGear bag like a new shiny red Cadillac. When I went home that evening, I told my wife about it. A smug look crossed her face, and she informed me, that she had shown the exact same brand to me online the week before. I was hooked. Out came the credit card, and in a few weeks time, our bag arrived.

While I was in the mood to spend, my wife also convinced me that we needed something to replace the stroller. As long as I was going to be carrying the kiddos around, I might as well find something that made it more comfortable. She ordered a Moby Wrap. At first the long strip of material looked daunting, but with a few practice runs, I was a pro. The pushchair has been collecting dust ever since.

The DadGear bag we ordered had a place for everything, looked manly, and even had the wipes case tucked neatly into the front of the bag for easy access. Having a functional bag and a decent carrier has made trips out with the family actually enjoyable. We were hooked. It was then that the entrepreneurial bug hit. Surely there must be others with the same dilemma, and so our company, Baby Soleil was born.

Our company, Baby Soleil, has a simple mission. We want to make your life easier. If we are able to make your life a little easier, we would love to hear about it.
