Most Recent Posts Renaissance Faires, Pirates, & HalloweenPosted Sep-07-06 16:59:58 PDT I've never actually been to a ren-faire. I've always wanted to & always thought it'd be fun, but never had the opportunity to. So all my faire knowledge is from online resources (pics, stories, faire sites). I also LOVE it when customers are willing to send me a pic of them wearing my creations. I've done a lot of people's wedding jewelry too (and not just renaissance stuff!) I am SOOO loving the pirate craze! I've got a bunch of pirate inspired necklaces & working on some designs for more (including some earrings too!) They're selling like hotcakes too. I'm working on a replica necklace for the gold Elizabeth Swann dress that is worn in Pirates of the Caribbean. Halloween is a great time of year for me too. I've definitely noticed an increase in my sales in the last month or two. Keep it up people! I'm also planning on listing some more simple, everyday type wear jewelry for those who love my style, but the big jewels are a bit much for the office. I've got a ton of things made up, but just need to do another photo shoot.
Tips for beginner jewelry makersPosted Sep-06-06 15:29:50 PDT Updated Sep-07-06 17:00:36 PDT If I were just starting out, I wouldn't go tooooo crazy buying everything you think you need. For my style of jewelry (and this is one of a ZILLION different types of jewelry design) all you need is some eye pins, head pins, jump rings, clasps or earrings (depending on what your're trying to make), some round nose & needle (or chain) nose pliers. There is a GREAT how to section on one of my supplier's sites. Go to: http://www.firemountaingems.com They've got a how-to section, a design gallery for ideas, and a jewelry making glossary too. Not to mention great prices as well! I think beginner jewelry makers spend to much money on what they think are "quality" components. But when you're just learning what you like, figuring out your style, etc... it really doesn't matter too much how fancy your components are. New jewelry supplies!Posted Jun-19-06 17:39:44 PDT Updated Sep-07-06 17:00:50 PDT I'm SOOO excited! I just got in a new order of supplies and can't wait to dig into it all. What I'm most excited about are these awesome scalloped filigree pieces. They're going to make the most gorgeous necklaces! I also got some fun "s" shaped connector/spacer components that will made some fun stuff. Check my auctions in the next week to see what I design with these! |
