I finally created an eBay About Me page to let everyone know a bit more about me, my passions, and my collecting "fetishes". If you wouldn't mind taking a moment to view my About Me page and let me know what you think, I'd really appreciate it.
First, if you haven't seen it already, be sure to watch the short video introduction... It's a little cheezy, but it's the easiest and quickest way I knew of to show you pictures of the house, and give you a sense of the history behind what I'm about to share with you.
Now, as you may or may not know, I have been a paranormal investigator since 1999. You can read more about me on my eBay MyWorld. For the past 8 years, I have researched and studied paranormal phenomenon, EVP, hauntings, ghosts and spirits. During this time, I have collected dozens of paranormal and metaphysical items. All of them have proven to be paranormally active, haunted or enchanted.
But my biggest discovery was a home I came across in 2000. This home had been abandoned for nearly a decade. The moment I stepped onto the property, my heart jumped and my nerves went haywire. There have only been a couple times in my history of paranormal investigation where I felt uneasy, nearly scared for my life. This was one of them. I immediately had the feeling that someone (or something) didn't want me there. But of course that didn't stop me. I've always been one to push the limits and see just how far someone can go. But still, I had this great sense of caution and fear that was rare to me. I mean, I can go into a deserted cemetery alone at 2AM and feel right at home. So to be nervous and frightened at a simple, vacant house was very strange to me. I had to find out why.
I pulled out my cameras and voice recorders and did a quick walk around the property. All around was an overwhelming sense of sadness, and another feeling I couldn't put my finger on, but it had me spooked. I made it a point to be in and out in as little time as possible. At least for now. Since I didn't know who owned this house, I didn't dare venture inside just yet. But I felt it was harmless to simply wander around the outside of the home, though I knew I probably wouldn't pick up any activity. Boy, was I wrong!
After about 30 minutes of photos and recordings, I decided I'd had enough for the day; plus it was starting to get dark and I did not want to be there once the sun went down. I was scared enough as it was. So I took my equipment home and started analyzing it. On the voice recorder there was a lot of chatter, but I couldn't quite make it out. Except for one, simple phrase that explained why I felt so horrible while I was there. About 5 minutes into the recording was a desperate voice saying, "I killed my parents."
I sat there in silence for a moment, shaking from the harsh realization of what had happened in that home. No wonder I had felt such sadness and fear. Regaining my composure, I got to work on the photos. I had captured two orbs in areas that would later prove to be significant. The most shocking was a very bright orb captured about the same time as the EVP I had heard. I could only assume this orb was the spirit of the person whose voice I'd recorded.
Of course, now understanding my fear and sadness, and having captured some very intriguing paranormal activity, I had to find out more. Who was this guy that had killed his parents? Who were his parents? What really had happened? So I did some more research on the property to find out who the deed holder was. After finding the registered owner, and speaking to him about the home, he told me he never knew who lived there or what had happened, only that the home had belonged to his grandfather's ex-spouse's daughter. Since this man was the last living known relative at the time, the county had turned the property over to him around 1994. He said he'd been to the home a couple times, but hadn't bothered renovating it or trying to sell it, since he lived several states away and just didn't have the time. My eyes nearly bulged out of my skull at the news, but I tried to contain my excitement. I nonchalantly asked if he'd like to sell it to me. He didn't hesitate, knowing it would be better to practically give it away than pay property taxes on it, year after year. He even said, "Hey, you can even keep whatever you find in there. I haven't taken the time to go through the house, but it's so old that there's probably not anything worth having. But if there is, it's all yours."
Well, to cut a long story short, I'll just say I was so excited to own this paranormal house that the day I bought it, I probably ran every red light and then some. I couldn't wait to uncover the treasures entombed in this forgotten residence. And to hopefully discover the truth about its history, and what had happened there. But nothing could have prepared me for what I would find...
In my hurry to get inside the house, I had forgotten to bring along a toolbox and couldn't pry off the plywood from the doors and windows. Luckily I found a gap in the screened porch and boosted myself through the opening. There were cobwebs everywhere. And it was so dark in many rooms from the windows being boarded up. The shadows seemed to follow me as I felt my way through each room. The first couple areas seemed pretty ordinary. Just the usual decor and beat up furniture. There was a room which appeared to be the library, with shelves full of dusty books, many in languages I didn't recognize. But there was one book in particular lying open on a table that caught my immediate attention.
Could it be what I thought it was? My heart raced with anticipation. I turned it to the first page and instantly recognized this as a Book of Shadows.
As I thumbed through the book, I found page after page of spells, enchantments, astrology, family history, enough to nearly grab the book and run home to read it cover to cover, and forget my primary purpose of being there.
But the greatest treasures were yet to be uncovered. Unfortunately, at this point the sun was starting to go down and I had to get out of the home before it was too dark to see anything. I picked up the Book of Shadows and felt my way back through the house and out the hole in the screened porch.
When I got home, I found the section in the book on the family's history and started to read, hoping to find out a bit of information that could provide clues as to what mystery the house held. I wasn't disappointed.
Here is what I have found out...
The house belonged to three witches of Hungarian descent. They were sisters, very close in age.
Their mother, Eszes Rozsa (Hungarian for "Rose the Clever"), arrived in America from Szentendre, Hungary (about 30 minutes outside Budapest) in 1890, at the age of 20.
She had been raised in the arts of Gypsy and European Magick.
Rozsa had 3 daughters that traveled with her. The eldest was approximately 3 years old.
The mother and daughters took residence in the home that had once stood on this property.
Sadly, the 3 daughters died of pneumonia shortly after arriving in America.
Rozsa met a local man of magick in 1909, and had 3 daughters with him. The mother believed they were the reincarnation of the 3 girls that had passed away, and knew she must raise them in the arts of magick.
The first daughter, Marie, was born in 1910, and was thought to be the most powerful.
The second daughter, Anna, was born in 1913.
The third daughter, Lucia Margit, was born in 1916.
After the third daughter was born, the father left and the girls took their mother's name ("Eszes").
They studied magick and witchcraft, and became very powerful women and witches.
In 1955, the main part of the house burned to the ground while the daughters were away. Their mother, who was 85, was still inside the home and unable to escape. She perished in the fire.
By this time, the daughters were 45, 42, and 39.
In 1957, the daughters began construction of a new home, on the same spot as the first house.
This house was finished in 1962, and was the house that is still there.
According to the Book of Shadows, the mother's spirit "haunted" the new house, and would materialize to assist in magickal rituals, and to further guide the 3 sisters.
In 1968, the oldest daughter, Marie, gave birth to a son. The father is unknown. Although we do know she performed a very potent fertility spell from the Book of Shadows to aid in pregnancy, since she was 58.
They named the son Jonas, and tried from an early age to raise him in the arts of magick, but felt too strong a negative energy within him. They feared his magick would get out of control, so they stopped teaching him. But this didn't stop his curiosity and persistence.
Apparently, Jonas had found an old toolbox that belonged to his grandfather. One day while meddling with a black magick spell he had found inside the box, he was possessed by a dark spirit. The sisters believed it was the spirit of his grandfather trying to take advantage of an inexperienced practitioner. They tried to banish the spirit, but it was too late. Within weeks, it had already taken complete control of Jonas.
That is the last thing I found in the Book of Shadows. Apparently, shortly after recording their efforts against the dark spirit, tragedy fell upon the home.
After researching for many years, I was able to find out through various reports tidbits of information about what had happened. Piecing all the information together, I have figured out what took place.
In 1990, when Jonas was 22, and completely overcome by this dark spirit, he killed his mother and two aunts in their home around 6:10PM. I won't go into detail as to how he killed them, as it's too gruesome. At about 6:20PM, Jonas killed himself in the room where I captured the photo of the orb and the EVP.
It is truly a sad event. And by the EVP of Jonas, seemingly so desperate to tell someone what he did, it is clear to me even he was a victim. From all the other family records, it is clear that Jonas loved his family, and was a very good person. Unfortunately an angry and vengeful spirit got a hold of him.
But the sisters lives weren't lost in vain. Their Book of Shadows and other spells and items I have found hold great power and knowledge, which I know they would have wanted to share. I am and will be offering many of these items on eBay. I have used them myself with great success, and am excited to pass the gifts and powers they contain on to someone else to benefit from. Be sure to watch my auctions to learn more about these enchanted and haunted items, and possibly get a couple of them for yourself.
Here are some other things I found while exploring the home and its possessions...
This is a photograph that I believe is of the 3 sisters. Marie is on the right, Anna in the middle, and Lucia is the little one on the left.
I believe this is the original house from 1890 that Rozsa moved into when she arrived in the United States from Hungary. The largest part of the home is strikingly similar to the home that the daughters built on the same spot in 1962.
This is supposedly Eszes Rozsa's home in Szentendre, Hungary, circa 1880.
I believe this is a picture of Rozsa from around the time she moved to the United States.
These are some of the older spells I found along with the Book of Shadows.
As I find out more, I will add more entries to the blog about the Eszes sisters. But also watch my auctions of items from this estate, as I will further explain things in the description (such as the spells, powers, etc.).
A lot of discussion on the religious aspect of spirits and spirit inhabited items has come up. So, to stick on topic, I decided to create this post where all comments regarding the religious aspects of spirits and ghosts are welcome, as I'd prefer my other posts to stay on topic.
Thank you in advance!
Now, for my views as to how religion plays a part in spirits and spirit inhabited items...
My personal opinion, through experience and contact with spirits, is that just because a spirit remains on the physical Earth plane does not necessarily mean they are just bound for hell and are in purgatory, or that they're afraid to move on because they know they're going to a bad place.
I have several spirits in my home of children under the age of 7, who of course are not bound for hell (if hell even exists). They are here because they choose to be. Many of them have unfinished business, or are trying to find a relative to tell them they're okay. Some of the younger children (such as one who is 9 months old) is just here because they didn't get enough love when they were alive, and are seeking that affection. And because they are so young, they don't necessarily know what can await them if they "cross over". Many are scared, simply because of the unknown. Not because they did something bad in their life.
Think about it... Do you walk alone down a dark, seemingly deserted alley at midnight? Not likely. Is it because you've had a bad experience in a dark alley before? Probably not. It's because you don't know what could be down there. That fear of the unknown makes you uneasy, and you generally will choose to stay on the lit sidewalk, instead of venturing off into something you know nothing about, unless you have a friend with you who will go down the dark path alongside you. Spirits, I feel, are the same way. When they die, they can choose to go down a mysterious, dark alley, or they can stay in a place they're comfortable in and used to, some place they feel safe. Many times they are just waiting for a living friend or relative to die, so they can walk down that alleyway together. Which is, why I feel, many people continue to see their deceased spouse or parent for years after he/she has passed away. That spirit is just watching his/her loved ones, until he/she feels it's safe to move on, or has someone to join in on the journey.
Often times someone will come to own (either through eBay, a collector, or other means) a "haunted" or spirit inhabited doll or other item, take it home, get out the equipment to start testing, and not notice any activity, then claim it was a hoax and not really haunted.
This really bugs me...
Let me ask you a question, before going any further. Do you sit at home all day waiting for someone to possibly come by and knock on your door seeking attention? Of course not. You have a life. At least, I hope you do. You get up off the couch and go do things. You go visit other people, you go shopping, you go to work, you go to the movies, whatever.
Well, spirits are the same way. A haunted item is just a vessel. Think of it as a "home" for the spirit. Just like you and I, the spirit doesn't sit around inside its "home" waiting for someone to come seek attention. Spirits are also "living" beings, on a different plane. They have their own agendas and activities. I have one spirit inhabited item where the spirit goes off and visits his other spirit friends on the other side of the world, and comes back when he feels like it. He doesn't sit at home all day inside his vessel. You need to keep that in mind when testing or trying to interact with a haunted item. Just because "someone's not home", doesn't mean it's fake or not inhabited. It often times just means the spirit is off visiting someone else. Or maybe it's checking out the rest of your home and is nowhere near the haunted item.
Spirits also don't often respond on command. Just because you say "Hey you, spirit, talk to me" doesn't mean it'll talk, or that it's even listening to you. He'll speak or act when he's good and ready. Not just because you want him to. Spirits are not our slaves or little play things. They are beings that deserve respect, as well as privacy, just as any of your physical living friends do. We do not own the spirit. We own the vessel it is attached to. Always remember that. Sometimes a spirit just doesn't want to be bothered. Other times it's not yet comfortable with you. They take time to get to know someone and make sure it's safe before making an appearance. Think about it... If you walked into a bar you'd never visited before, and you didn't know anyone in there, would you just jump up on stage and start talking to everyone? No. You'd sit back in a corner and watch first, taking in people's personalities, and gauging their moods and behaviors before introducing yourself. Some spirits will never make an appearance, for their own reasons, even though they're still present. Other spirits will sometimes leave the vessel altogether and find something else to inhabit, though I haven't known this to be common.
Spirits are unique individuals, with their own moods, personalities, likes and dislikes. Remember that next time you don't notice any activitiy. Perhaps you just aren't the type of person that's meant to experience paranormal things, or you have a mental block preventing you from seeing. Or maybe the spirit just isn't comfortable with you yet. Spend time cultivating a bond between you and the spirit. Take care of the vessel to show the spirit you're loving and nurturing. In time, you will probably come to know the spirit and he will make appearances. Maybe he won't. It's up to him, not you.
I think one of the most often asked questions is "Why do spirits inhabit items?"
Well, first, what types of items do spirits inhabit or haunt? The answer is, just about anything. Some of the most common, though, are:
Dolls
Teddy bears
Bottles
Boxes
Jewels or amulets
Vases and urns
Mirrors and pictures
So why do spirits choose to inhabit items? Well, my opinion is that they tend to attach themselves to something that was very important or special to them while they were alive. Dolls are an obvious example of this. Children, and often adults, love their dolls greatly. Especially children, who will play with the doll and take it everywhere they go. And because dolls often resemble human forms, it only makes sense that a spirit would choose to attach itself to such an item. They also know that whoever else ends up playing with the doll will love it, and nurture it, as if it were a child, so the spirit will then feel the love and compassion that is passed on to the doll. I also believe that spirits tend to attach themselves to a certain object, whether it be a doll, jewelry, vase, or anything else, because that object is usually close to them when they die. So, the spirit leaves the body, and takes hold of whatever item of importance to them is closest.
Why do spirits inhabit these items, instead of just moving on to an afterlife?
Well, without getting into religious debate, we as mortals aren't even sure if there's an afterlife, or what the afterlife is. It can be heaven, or it can be another spiritual plane of existence (possibly superimposed with our physical plane), or it can be reincarnation. Those are just a few examples of what the afterlife could be, depending on different people's beliefs. The truth is, we really don't know what happens to our spirit when we die. We can believe in a certain post-existence, but we won't truly know for certain until we've left this life. So we can't really come to a conclusion as to why certain spirits will inhabit an item, instead of moving on. We can only assume.
But from my own personal experiences and beliefs, I feel that certain spirits will inhabit an item just because they aren't ready to leave this physical plane of existence. Whether it's because they suffered a very traumatic death, or they simply want to remain behind and watch over their family, or they're just scared of moving on and feel more comfortable staying here. Not everyone who dies stays behind and possesses an item. But for those who do, it doesn't necessarily mean they had a bad physical life. Often times this is the case. But it's not an absolute. Sometimes they just want to stick around a while longer. Or they want to remain on this plane to protect their family, or worldly possessions from harm.
Just as humans are individuals and have their own reasons for doing certain things, the same can be said about spirits. No two are alike.
