I often get asked what supplements I take owning a supplement health shop...Posted May-15-08 22:50:33 PDT Well just under a week ago I decided after many years of procastination and lack of motivation to get myself back in shape. I have been pretty much in the fitness and health industry for all my life with over 12 years managing health stores, 19 years being involved in bodybuilding with the last 3 actually the promoter for ANB Victoria and for those that dont know its a bodybuilding federation. I have had issues regarding my weight all my life controlling it by good healthy eating and my choice of sport when Im not giving them all ago is the trusty weights. I found after having baby 4 years ago and using that excuse alongside "too busy" "too hard" and my best one..." You dont need to be a good footy player to be a great coach" (owning a health shop and running regular educational bodybuilding workshops and competitions I needed these excuses I thought.) Anyhow push led to shove and not being able to put on my shoes without feeling I had run a marathon and after 20 attempts (atleast) to join weight loss groups etc..I recently decided to practise what I preach and get back to it. Yes it was a light bulb moment. I remember the exact moment and situation that made me decide to get myself organised, take time out for myself and get my fitness back on track.. So... In the middle of the night pretty much I went down to work and worked out what I wanted to achieve, set some dates and goals and got myself I think a easy suplement programme and exercise programme that has awarded me with little over a week, more energy, fatloss and a new lease of motivation to stay on track. Yes and doing it my way!!! I have put myself on the following supplements and I will explain a little what they can help do... I always say to my clients (Oh have I told you I have been a qualified PT which has included many years of being a weightloss consultant) Anyhow I always say to my clients to check with your health practitioner before you start any diet or exercise programme especially if you are on medications or overweight. I take all supplements that really are safe for anyone as I do not like stimulants in my system. Deciding that I wanted to be in great shape for my next competition which is being held this October (20 weeks away roughly) I have decided to go all out without being ridiculous as I do have family and two business's that I want to be fair to.. So my supplements... Fish oil and Flaxseed oil - Great anti inflammatory but also great for assisting weightloss CLA - Conjulated Linoic Acid great anti oxidant and also helps reduce the fat cell but also studies have shown it may assist helping you keep the fat off (Just what I needed.. Wish I was taking it years ago.) Carnitine - Uses your fat stores as energy so great for fat utilisation... Spirulina - Super food as I am going hard at it and want to loose weight as safely and quickly as I can I thought it wouldnt hurt as its a complete food (I say better than a multi!) Creatine - Okay I am using a Kre-Alkaline which is awesome. Never used it in my life even when I was super fit but anyhow it hydrates the muscle, helps you get leaner muscle mass, strength, recovery etc.. Awesome stuff! ALA - Alpha lipoic Acid helps metabolise fats, protein and carbs (Hey why not if its safe! ) Vitamin C when I think of it and I do try to take everyday a Liver tonic such as Milk thistle which helps with supporting a sluggish liver. So thats it for me. I would normally not take so much but I am on a mission to be under 80kgs for October so stay tuned to hear if I do it. This week have lost 1kg or just over - feel great, energised, a little tired and sore from my training but I am ready to concur the world... I always say when talking to your health practitioner who can help advise you is to be honest with what you are doing, what you are taking from your doctor so that way they can work out a great plan to help you reach your goals. Owning a health shop my motive is not to have staff that are commissioned base on what they sell but to have us all treat you with respect and honesty educating you with taking whats right for you. Be true to yourself and no matter if you are someone that needs to loose weight, put on size or just want to get fit.. YOU CAN DO IT! Maria
