Most Recent Posts And they call it puppy love,....with a price tag?Posted Jun-19-08 01:50:00 PDT Updated Jun-20-08 23:14:05 PDT If you've noticed my "avatar" image, the user pic I use - that's our Dweezil aka The Buddy and is one of our 3 Pugs. We spoil them, over indulge, and love them more than alot of people we know. If you are a dog person, you know what I mean - and if you are a PUG PERSON you just said "...well duh!" Dweezil it seems has inspired a few people to comment on him, praise him, ask "what is it" lol, and I've also been asked if he's available for stud service. At least I think they meant the dog, hmm,...anyway, Sadly he can't - Snip Snip - had a testicle that didnt desend and that could be a huge health problem so,... the snipage,...and believe me, we were heart broken. We wanted Dweezie Puppies. The "WE" I refer to is my lovely wife Shels. She's been telling me that I should use my graphic skills and our Pug Picture Obsession to make some artsy images and sell them here on ebay. Before I do something like that, I wanted a little feed-back from YOU the potential and future buyer. 1st - Should I even do such a thing? I don't want to seem like I'm exploiting our "kids" but my wife has a good point. "They make us happy, why not share that happiness with everyone!" ( she's good like that! ) 2nd - I'm worried that someone else would exploit them. I've been in the creative business a long long time,...and would copyright the imagery but thats not cheap, in a sense. Costs of which get pasted along to the consumer. Which brings me to the third issue I have. 3rd - I have an issue charging for the pictures. Sure, I get a VERY good rate for the work I do professionally speaking. But tinkering with my Puggie Pix then selling them, I don't know - I'd feel kinda bad. It's not like I took the photos with the idea to make a buck. I'm speaking to the potenial buyers of the Pug Art. And I see several people that sell copies of their Pug/Dog art - Hand drawn or Photoshop. So obviously there is a dollar to be made ( I've bought a few myself actually ). When it comes to corporate clients, or the upper level businesses I develop and design for, believe me I have no problem charging my rate. But when it's you - the ebayer,....check that, I should say,.... the honest - hard working - Pug loving - decent - upstanding and reliable Ebay Buyers out there, your opinion counts to me. So, the question is: Would I be a rotten Pug Parent for creating and selling pictures/art of my puppies? Should I be a good husband and listen to my most excellent and wise wife? Would anyone be interested in stuff like this? Thoughts? Really would like to hear the pro's and con's on this one. I doubt I'd be retiring on the profits and it wouldn't be a long term thing, but I'd like to know your thoughts either way. And hey - maybe more people should ask the Ebay community for their opinions and cut down on some o' the junk being sold out there. :-) Thank you that is all, over..... -maxi Update June 21, 2008 - I put some of the images I may use up online. They are located at: http://www.timberlinegroup.com/ebay - Have a look. Thx to all who replied. ;-) Video Professor - Ebay Training?Posted Jun-15-08 00:50:26 PDT Updated Jun-15-08 00:55:03 PDT First things first - I must admit two things up front. One, I am a great big computer geek! And second, I ( shamefully ) admit to working for Video Professor a couple years back. I will not slander the company, there are plenty of web sites for that and the company STILL manages to create their own poor reputation. I will say this, I did leave based on my disagreement with the company's ethics and policies but know this - that they, the vast majority of the people at VP, do believe they are doing something good. It's only when - like me - you become aware of their business practices because of the level of my position with VP that you feel compelled to find another job. So with that off my chest, I left the company before this "Video Professor Buy and Sell on Ebay" intructional CD-ROM came out. I'm baffled that Ebay allows this for one, and has anyone on here actually "paid" for this thing? I am super curious as to the content of this CD-ROM, I'd order one but,.... ethically I could never. But is this thing actually helpful? Does it give you information you can't find yourself here on the Ebay site? And if it does is that legal? And if it doesn't - you bought it why? There are countless books, blogs, and tons of information out there but nothing beats good old common sense and a bit of investigation on your own, to form your own opinions and knowledge. Yes yes I know that in some cases that's too much to ask - but for the life of me, everytime I see that kooky "attic full of baseball cards" commercial from Video Professor I have to think to myself, is there a market for this thing? And hey - I'm not going to jump on the person that did feel the need to buy this CD-ROM. I just hope you were able to get out of your "contract" that you didn't know you got leeched into, so you don't need me picking on you about this. I really don't think you need to be the level of geek I am, or savvy when it comes to computers, business, or the internet to be successful on Ebay. I'd love to hear from someone who got the CD-ROM from VP and either found it helpful or harmful. I'm open to have my opinion changed if this helped you, like I said: this title came out after I left so who knows, maybe this is a valuable asset to ebay users. Please, let me know either way. Hurry up! Out bid me! There are only 1000 identical items for sale!Posted Jun-08-08 20:06:20 PDT Updated Jun-08-08 20:07:20 PDT Sorry. But everyone wants a deal right? Everyone wants to make a buck too and thats ok. God bless virtual capitalism! But I gotta say, it wigs me out when say theres a computer for sale for $5 bucks and the seller has over a gazillion listed and someone comes along and out bids me! It's nothing special. Sure it would be nice for me, to work on - give to someone in the family, or donate later after I tinker with it. But why, if the seller has a bunch, would someone come along and not find their own and bid on mine? Or soon to be mine? A friend said that it is most likely the seller using either someone else or a different account to "inflate" the price and sure - no doubt that happens but I usually end up walking away from the sale. If it's so important to a person to out bid me, and usually just for a buck more I guess some cosmic purpose has drawn you to the exact machine I was bidding on and not the countless exact others. So by all means, HAVE IT. Share your thoughts on this, I can't be the only one baffled by this act of human nature. I'm sure it happens elsewhere than computer geek world. Love to hear your tales. |
