New Work

I have three new pieces started and waiting to be finished. I always start my work with a vision but as it progresses on the canvas it develops its own personality.

Since ebaying is new to me I am pondering my larger pieces. It simply is very expensive to ship. I will be making prints and smaller art works that will be more affordable and easier in shipping.

Im quite impressed that I have been able to pick up most of this webpage stuff....yes, pats self on back!! small things impress me.

I figured out how to make a banner and customize this blog! yeh!

Next task....how to add photos to your blog.

Biggest Artistic Inspiration There are so many. Its a daily adventure.

Why Did You Become An Artist Ive always been an artist in my mind. I would say as a young child I was born an artist.

Your Personal Biography I was born at Brandon Manitoba but spent most of my life in Regina Saskatchewan. I eventually moved to Saskatoon SK where I lived before moving to England Surrey UK. I left England and now reside in Calgary Alberta since 2006. I enjoyed my time overseas but Canada is and always will be my homeland. I was raised by my Metis/Catholic Grandmother and an English Anglican StepGrandfather from Sheifield England. My ancestors on my Fathers and Mothers side orginated from Red River area in Manitoba and Batoche Saskatchewan.I have traced my European French and Scotish Ancestory to the 1800's and my Native Ancestory which includes(Cree and Saulteaux) to the late 1700's. I am still working on the family tree and Im having fun with the discoverys.

I decided to pursue my creative talents and art expressions upon moving to Calgary in October of 2006. Prior to that point I never made time for it but always knew I loved drawing, painting, sculpture, crafts and that I have an inherant knack for it. I once told the director of a creative drama group that my art/creativness is what makes my spirit soar, brings a fullness and a renewed sense of aliveness.

Louis Reil said 'My people will sleep for 100 years, when they awake again; it will be the artists that give them back their spirit.' Louis Riel, 1885

When I see Metis/Native art, music it reminds me of this quote written over 100 years ago and how it rings true today for many Metis/First Nations peoples today.

The person who encouraged me to pursue art when I was younger was my Uncle Clarence(Clarence Campeau Economic Development Fund ) I would run to him when he came to visit with a pencil in my hand so he could draw for me. He was a very talented artist but not many were aware of it. I continued with art in school and won the art award upon completion of Grade Eight.

I have through family tree research and from my deceased Grandmothers(on fathers side) stories found that I am a descendant of Louis Reil. I will write more on this and the stories she shared with me as a child on her life growing up on a Metis farm. I will also, at some point place a family tree link. I have many relatives who are accomplished artists, musicians, business entreprenuers and have played an important part in the history and shaping of Canada.

My inspiration and some of my planned art work will focus on the area of Batoche and my spiritual/family connection to it. I am also inspired by my dreams, visons,my family, history, Native/Metis culture and nature. I have not developed any particular style of art,Im just doing what I like. I am working on a few more abstracts and I have more realistic pieces in mind and started.I would love to focus on it full time so I could pursue it more seriously. It is though like my writing and very personal in some aspects. Please take time to visit my links. Finally this site is a work in progress as I have never tried to make one before. Sign my guest book and let me know you were here. a Metis Woman.
