Des Traynor, a Usability Analyst from Ireland, wrote an intereresting piece in his blog called, "
9 things Firefox should steal from Safari". Des has some interesting things to say. Here are my takes:
- Highlight the current text field. Totally agree. This is one of Safari's greatest features.
- Font rendering. Agree here too. See my blog entry on this.
- The Downloads dialog. I don't have a strong opinion here one way or the other.
- HTML rendering Speeds. Sorry. I don't have any real evidence that isn't Apple propaganda that shows me a dramatic rendering speed difference between Firefox and Safari.
- The bug reporter. Agree here too, but Firefox 3.0 has this and is coming soon!
- The Find dialog. Not sure I totally agree o disagree with Des on this. I like that I can search Firefox without bringing up a dialog box. However, I LOVE how Firefox highlights all of the occurances on a page.
- Detachable tabs. I wouldn't mind if Firefox had this feature but I use Tab to window so my Firefox experience already takes care of this need.
- Draggable images. Can't argue with Des here.
- Resizable Text Areas. Agree here too, but again there's a Firefox extension that takes care of this too. Aptly named, Resizable Form Fields for Firefox.
