Introducing... Thomas the Train Mouse!

Dear fellow Engineer,

I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Thomas and I’m a house mouse. Yes, you heard right --a house mouse. I share a house with John – you know, the guy that sold you model railroading stuff on eBay. It is a neat house in a small town and it may surprise you to know that John doesn’t even know I live here too!

The reason I’m writing to you is because I have a problem. A big problem! You see, by nature, John is a neat and tidy person. But please don’t hold that against him...

Lately, it seems he hasn’t been selling a whole lot of stuff on eBay since the Holidays so he spends more time cleaning up the house. I suppose he believes in that old adage that “idle hands are the devil’s tools. (rolling eyes).  My problem is that he is spending too much time cleaning up my house that I am having MAJOR difficulties grabbing the crumbs on the kitchen floor…

And I know how much you have to keep up with your model railroad layout.

So I thought if we put our heads together, we can solve both of our problems. You get the stuff you need for your railroad layout and I get the crumbs. Here is my idea and I think it could work…

Can you check out John’s eBay store at:

Electric Model Steam Trains Store

You will find that he has been adding new stuff to his eBay store such as trains, rolling stock, locomotive books, railroad photography books, and much, much more. (I have seen John typing in the new listings on eBay)

And when John gets off the computer at nighttime, I get on to type this letter to you. I also read what his customers have to say on his eBay feedbacks.

To sum it up – the plan is for YOU to check out John’s eBay store for stuff you might need. And I’ll gather up the crumbs (and he will be too darn busy to clean around the house if he is happily replying to your emails and shipping your stuff fast to you).

Can we make this happen?

Your friend,

Thomas

P.S. I apologize for the small type. But I have small feet! Also, you will always get GREAT SERVICE from John. If you ever have questions or want to inquire about stuff you don’t see on his eBay store – just email him from any listing in his store. And be sure to check his eBay store often because he is always adding new stuff.

Outstanding to do business with!! Great communication!! Fast shipping!! AAA+++

eBay Seller Stealing My Train Pictures

One of my customers emailed me this morning and said that another seller is stealing my pictures for their auctions.

So I went over and checked both sites... sure enough... we got a dastardly thief on our hands!

Both of these pictures are identical. I took the pictures in my back yard with a white towel over the table and a evergreen tree scrub in the background. I used a green stand to put the trains on. The angles is even similar. If a customer can recognize my pictures...

The fact that his picture is blurry and has less resolution should be obvious whose picture was original and who was copying...

So I contacted eBay and they told me to write the the "Trust and Safety team" and make a complaint.

So jump on my train, we're gonna ride on this fool!  :)

Your temporarily insane conductor...

John

P.S. Has this ever happened to anyone before? What did you do about it and was it resolved?

P.P.S. Do we get money? :)

P.P.P.S. Remember, if you are not in the garage operating your Model Steam Train, quite frankly you just aren't living... :-)

A Conductor, Train Yard And A Goose

In case you were wondering what happens when a train conductor in the train yard crosses a goose...

Well, you go to court to sue your employer!

Here's the story, apparently, this conductor was performing a brake test (about three years ago) at the train yard. And out jumps a goose which struck the "plaintiff" and causing him to fall.

The man is suing for loss of earning, future earning capacity and loss of enjoyment of life.

Now, I don't know how seriously injured the man was from a goose attack but working in a train yard is fraught with peril. There are extremely heavy equipment and objects lying around.

And the best this guy can find is a nesting goose? How exactly is the employer responsible for THAT? I'm sure he was medically insured but suing above and beyond for a disgruntled goose?

How exactly does this guy hold his head up high, look at the jury in the eyes and demand extra compensation for being attacked by a goose?

Maybe it's me but I think this world is getting a little crazy here... What do you guys think?

Your temporarily insane conductor... John

Insulting and Rude Buyer...

Wow! You would never believe what happened to me this morning...

You see, I got an inquiry from a buyer about one of my items. He is from another country and I am quite willing to ship it by Priority Mail International.

Priority Mail shipping was too expensive for him. And he wanted the item shipped first class.

Now this shipping this item by 1st class wasn't worth my time because I would have to go to the Post Office and fill out forms to ship it out to him. And I would have NO PROOF that I shipped it to him.

So I told him that I couldn't do it and said that he would be getting the train at a good price that the cost of Priority Mail shouldn't be a factor.

And boy!

He sent an unbelievably rude message questioning my intelligence and memory.

So I returned that message around and said, "That was a very rude message you sent and please do not bid on this item."

And oh boy!!!

Fireworks ensued. More insults galores. And then...

He had the temerity to DEMAND that I ship the item to him first class. He said that he has TWO companies that are worth $700k. (not too sure if I was supposed to be impressed).

I did the next best thing. I ignored the email.

Then I put his name on my Blocked list. There is no way I would ever do business with the guy. I don't trust him. I don't like him and quite frankly, I hope I never hear from him again...

Has anyone else ever have a horror story like this?

The Great Locomotive Chase -- The General

Discover the History of Our Locomotives...

Find out how to view the
old silent movie classic, "The General"

I loved watching the old movie by Buster Keaton, "The General." It was made in 1927 and is a silent movie. In fact, it is public domain which mean you can download a copy of it from the Internet for free!

Recently, I became aware that there was a similiar movie made later, in 1956 starring Fess Parker and Jeffery Hunter. The name of that movie is "The Great Locomotive Chase." I never watched it and heard good things about that movie...

And imagine my surprise that both of these movies were based on a true story!!!

There WAS a train called, "The General." And it WAS stolen by the Union 146 years ago from a small southern town of Big Shanty (now Kennesaw), Georgia.

And the Conductor of the General, William Fuller, was one of the men who pursued James Andrews and his Union Raiders.

The General was recaptured and became one of the most famous locomotives in United States. It is now part of the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History located in Kennesaw, Georgia.

And the General is a type 4-4-0 steam locomotive. Which means it has a front truck of four smaller wheels and two driving axles of 4 much larger wheels in the back. The 4-4-0 was practically the most popular steam locomotives in North America in the first half of the 19th century. And it was very popular in Great Britain.

The Buster Keaton silent movie was not accurate but lots of fun to watch. So why not download it right now and watch it on your computer? Just go to Google Video and type in, the general. Open up the video and to your right is a link named (obviously), "Download." Click on that and  you are good to go!
