It sometimes seems as though I was born in a kitchen. My involvement with the kitchen and all things food came from my father, who joined the navy at 18 years old and was made a ships cook during WWII and discovered he loved cooking.  Upon leaving the navy, he attended culinary school and became a chef.  After several years working in large restaurants, he decided to make a change and open his own business, which was a small family restaurant and gourmet shop in his home town.

That’s where my introduction to and love for the kitchen came from.  Since the restaurant was only a few blocks from home, I spent many hours there working with dad.  I was just a 9 year old kid so I got duties like scrubbing pots and pans and running the big dishwasher.  But dad also got me in front of the stoves and fryers too.  I learned everything from frying fish, making soups and sauces to cooking and serving full restaurant meals.  He taught me what the different pots and pans were for and why we used certain knives for certain tasks.  He also taught me to use quality, name brand products because they worked better and lasted longer.

All this got me interested in everything about what happened in the kitchen.  I didn’t pursue cooking as a career, but as an adult, I’ve always been the cook in the family and appreciate having good quality utensils in the kitchen.

So why am I in this business now?  Well, after almost 30 years of corporate life, I retired at the age of 50.  I was tired of working for someone else and when the opportunity came along for me to leave I took advantage.  And that brings me to the present.

One day my wife and I were sitting around talking and I mentioned that I wanted to do something different, something that wouldn’t require me to work for someone else, and something that I could do from home.  After much deliberation we came up with the idea of starting an internet business and because I love everything about the kitchen, from there it was easy to pick which products to sell.  We wanted name brand products that begin with high quality and have good warranties with fair return policies.
