Just....wrong

The other day my uncle's house was broken into. The people who did it didn't just take things but they further shamed my uncle by leaving evidence that they had hung around the place for a while chilling out and drinking soda and such. Man, did that get me mad. I mean come on! Stealing around the Holidays! Thats just wrong! I know some people don't have it as good as others but you know what, if they would swallow their pride and ask for things they need and maybe want..they really might get it. My uncle is a very giving man. He's patient and has a good word for everyone. In fact I don't think you could be near the man and not laugh within five minutes of meeting him. Every Chirstmas he donates food and never passes someone in need without giving a little something to them. But this Christmas his Holiday spirit is gone and I don't blame him. It's really a shame there are people in this world who do things like this. *sighs*

Sadly, this happened to my neighbors just yesterday as well. Ironically, however, just 3 weeks ago there were five sheriff's vehicles at their house recovering 6 stolen 4 wheelers that their son had taken off others. And now these people are angry with all the neighbors because we weren't home (during the day) to see who broke in.

Christmas seems to inspire more crime than anything these days. I'd be nice if we could recapture the true meaning of the holidays.

Hopefully your uncle won't allow this to tarnish his good spirit.

Thank you for the kind words. I agree that the holidays seem to make us more of a target lately instead of making others catch the holiday spirit. I know this won't get my uncle down for long but I'm still upset he had to go through it.
As for your neighbors Crazyjeans, I'm glad I don't live near them. They seem the type who think they do no wrong and then complain when trouble comes back to haunt them. But its inevitable I think. You know the old saying..."What goes around, comes around".

it is terrible.....but we are tested in some strange ways, even at holiday time. The crooks win if your uncle is changed, and that's the biggest loss.

I agree with wm... you can't control what other people do but you can control how you react to it. I hope your uncle can get past this and once again become the funny, giving person you know him to be real soon!

Wait--there's an upside to that soda thing. Did the police take fingerprints off the cans/bottles?? It's a perfect surface to get prints from.

We were broken into 3 times by the same group last fall and could never get anywhere because no prints were left.

Good luck to your uncle. That does take the fizz out of the fizzies to get invaded.

This happened to me 23 years ago. The difference was the we came home while the robbery was in progress, and they ran. We could not find anything they had actually gotten away with, but they had certainly trashed the place. All of our electronics had been pulled out, ready to go, but they were not gone. Every dresser drawer and contents had been tossed and the beds and mattresses strew. The one thing of value they could have gotten, they never found. All of the wrapped Christmas presents were in my infant daughter's walk-in closet. Ever since that experience, I never put presents under the tree before Christmas Eve. The police explained this is a high robbery time, with robbers striking while folks are at work or out Christmas shopping. THe primary thing our robbers were seeking were money, drugs and jewelry..finding none of those, they went after the electronics....

It's nice to see/hear such comforting thoughts and opinions. Thank you all for posting. I admit, when I wrote this blog post I was upset but reading all your words helps more then you know.
To answer your question Kalamazooclipper, yes the police took the soda cans and the cups they left around. The police were actually very spot on and took all the evidence to be had. The sad thing is that I think our family has an idea who these bandits are. This was not the first time my uncle's house got broken into but last time it was a cousin of ours with his friends. This time the said cousin is in jail but the MO is the same so we think its his pals. A sad feeling. And I'm sorry to hear you went through the same trouble when your home was broken into. I hope the police catch the idiots who invaded your home but if not I still suspect they will get whats coming to them. No bad deed goes unpunished.

Jcarolek, you were very very lucky! Not only about having all your things, but because those people did not have an weapons on them. Thank God for that. I always keep it in my mind that things in the house can be replaced but a life cannot. I'm glad you busted them before they took anything.
