Jetski buyers and sellers

My name says it all.  I love to jetski and have 5 of them.  I buy and sell parts on ebay all the time but there are many "peeves" I have with both sellers and buyers.  One pet peeve is the seller who has lost the title or bill of sale.  This is unexcusable.  Would you do this with your car title?

Keep the title or bill of sale in a file as you would a car title so when you do sell the boat you have all the paperwork there for the buyer.

Sellers; some sellers think they are sitting on gold when it comes to parts.  I came across a guy selling a "new" 440 pump with prop for 499 bucks.  Why would anyone in their right mind spend 500 buck for a ski thats not worth 400 bucks.  Just because you have a new OEM part or slightly used part doesnt mean its worth anything.  The guy selling it claimed since it sold for 1600 bucks new back in the day, it should be worth 500 now.  How he came up with that math is beyond me.  This same senario goes for pipes,  people actually pay over 300 bucks for these items....why?  There are plenty out there they should only be worth 100 bucks or so.  You buyers need to stop over inflating prices.

Another seller I saw had a stator for a JS400.  He is asking 499 for the thing.  Why? Because he thinks he is setting on gold I guess...

Sellers; Seem to get confused often on the type of boat they own.  Some say they have a Kawasaki waverunner, others say they have a Yamaha jetski.  Remember, "jetski" is Kawasaki and Waverunner is Yamaha.

I would disagree with only the second part. Used parts in Automotive and Marine usually sell for 30-60 percent of retail used, depending on demand, dealer, etc. GO try to buy a 700.00 part from a dealer, and when you come to me and I am charging 350.00 for it tell me I am to expensive....you will get the response to go hang because I sell quality parts for a reasonable price and if you want to go to the dealer then go ahead.

I have seen MANY people put 5000 dollars into a 1500 dollar ski, no they are probably not in their right mind, but if you are a business man, or an everyday joe selling parts, you want to make some money. Believe me when I say, if you don't buy my part, someone out there WILL. OEM are not always worth LESS that after market parts, and have a very good value in good shape or not.

Value is in the eye of the buyer. It is the BUYERS responsibility to weigh if the spend 15.99 on a stator, or 129.99 on a stator are they going to get their money worth? And also the buyers responsibility to shop around. When I buy, I don't mind spending a little more money to get a better, cleaner, tested product.

My responsibility is to list most of my items with units that it will fit, part number, and retail cost. To describe the item with the best description I can. I believe the extra effort I put in entitles a little extra compensation..Find someone else out there that tells you ALL years and Models that I can find in my research that my part will fit, and I will match their price.

I believe that my customers agree, I have a pretty solid feedback, and people have confidence buying from someone who asks for what a part is worth.

The old saying "You get what you pay for" is correct as I have found time and time again....

Thanks,

Jon

I disagree 100%. The people who pay your prices are ill-informed and dont know what is out there. I have seen sellers try and sell js550 exhaust (stock) for 2-400 bucks when I know I can get the same thing for 10 bucks. Some sellers are taking advantage of ill-informed people--Im not saying you are, but the prices are not correct. There is a BIG difference between a NEW 700 dollar part and a 20+ year old part. There is no comparison on price. I tell everyone I meet about sellers who try and rape buyers with overpriced parts.

Again, ill informed relates to my statement that you need to do your homework. I have MANY repeat buyer, including performance junkies, so the argument is not really valid. AS far as getting a good deal, I think they are out there, I offer them often, but again, you get what you pay for. I agree a twenty year old part might not be worth the RETAIL amount, but a used handelbar pad off a 1995 GTS can go for as much as 100 dollars being bid on used.

I could relate it to your buisiness, and make a really good point if you told me what your occupation is.

Thanks again,

Jon

Im in the computer industry. And I have done my homework. I have been doing this for 30+ years. Again the 50-60% of retail might apply to parts that are only a few years old. As they get older they no longer apply. Same with the computer industry, I can sell a 2-3 year old server for that 50-60% of retail, sometimes even more. But as the tech gets older its no longer worth the money. Case in point, I bought a 4way Xeon ML570 HP server with 36.4 gig HD's that came out 7-8 years ago for 500 bucks. These servers originally sold for 6-12000 dollars. SO you going to tell me a server that went for 12K is still worth 6K? Even though it will not run certain apps or keep up with RAID I/O? You going to tell a prospective buyer that this old server will do the job just as good as new server? I think not. If you do, you're a dishonest seller, or know nothing of the computer business or both.

Like I say, the only people paying these prices are the uniformed first time PWC owners being suckered in by sellers who are also uninformed and think this 50-60% of retail applies to all parts. Its total greed and BS on the sellers part.

LMAO--I saw your auction for those dual carbs for 525 bucks... YOu're out of your mind, you'll never get it. If you do, its from a newbie jetski user and you just f***ed him over good.

If you are referring to a buy it now price, then I have already explained that you have to ask for what it is worth. I believe the same part you are referig to has the retail price stated in description, and starts bidding around 199.99.

No one says anything after four years old goes down in price, there is NO STANDARD.
Of course a server for a 7-8 year old computer is going to be WAY cheaper as technology moves so fast, but a part that is interchanges on many jet skis is not a server.

I don't know why you get so angry, I was just trying to have a discussion expressing my point of view, I am not saying you are wrong, I am not that egotistical that I would say that I am right or you are wrong I was just explaining my position.

Good luck to you, I hope venting your anger and astonishment at my prices, has helped you feel better about yourself. But in the future, you might try a puppy.
