Most Recent Posts X-treme XB 500 electric scooter review/blogPosted Aug-07-08 08:47:19 PDT If you are looking for ways to decrease the bill at the gas pump and are considering buying an electric bike/scooter/moped here on Ebay, here is a review blog on another bike I have purchased. It was a toss up between the XB508 and the XB500 for me. I went with the XB500 mostly because it was what I needed for $90 less than the 508. I went with the same seller for this bike as I am loyal to great sellers and this one is top drawer. 60 hours after clicking buy it now, I had my bike. The bike is shipped freight and you have to pick it up at a terminal unless you pay an extra $50 for home delivery. I live in Austin and picked up my bike in San Antonio. The guys at the dock were very careful loading my bike and it was in perfect condition when I opened the crate. The color of the bike is way better live than what the pic shows. The blue/purple color is stunning. Assembly is basic with only having to install mirrors, trunk, and the front tire. So far I have to give this bike an A+ and has totally exceeded my expectations. I use it for errands and commuting and it is wonderful. This bike has tremendous range and goes about 20-25mph. I usally dont need to go farther than 7 miles and the battery gauge has never dropped below 3/4. It does bog down on steep hills but just a few cranks on the pedals will get me over the top. It is also very quiet with virtually no noise. Very stealth. Charges very fast. I have made a general estimation and I think this bike will pay for itself in about 5-7 months with gas savings. I did come out a little better in selling my x560. My neighbors boy did not want to buy it so I sold it on craigslist for $225. So my actual profit from that whole experiment was $162! If you are interested in a smaller less expensive bike, you can read about my exploits with the x560 in the other review blog. Go Electric! X-treme X 560 electric scooter reviewPosted Jun-06-08 11:04:58 PDT Updated Jun-08-08 18:39:33 PDT Since there is no where near enough room in a feedback line to really get a good idea of how good or bad one of these scooters are, here you go. First thing is the seller. 1st class all the way and he offers a good deal. Although the shipping is expensive, we are talking about a package 46"x26"x14" at 90lbs getting to you in 2 to 3 days so it is reasonable. Next is the bike. Overall I would give it a B+ for me. I am 5'10" weighing 210 and I think I am about as big a person to be able to ride this bike and go fast and be comfy as this bike can handle even though it can take a much larger person. I get up to 20mph on a flat surface and faster down hill. I can go up some decent hills but it will stop on a real steep hill. The optimal rider size is probaly 5'-5'11' and 200 lbs or less. The bike itself is nice. The bike is comfy, easy to ride and overall seems to be well made. The plastic parts like the trunk, fairings, headlight housing, etc. are somewhat flimsy but they are very lightweight so you have a tradeoff there. The only real major flaw in the bike is the way the handle bars attach to the front wheel. They slide on and are held in place by a bicycle seat post style clamp and pin thru the shaft. Both the pin and clamp are inadequate for the job they need to perform and should be upgraded immiediately. You can find a real good clamp from a bike shop(get a beefy bmx style clamp) and a pin from any hardware store. The tools that come with the bike are like those you may get with furniture you have to put together yourself. They are no good to me and I used my own tool set to assemble the bike. On a difficulty scale of 1-10 for assembly I would give it a 3. Charging the bike is quick and easy and takes about 4 hours from an almost dead battery to full charge. Other features that came on my bike but were not listed are a loud horn and the blinkers beep like a back up alarm when they go. At $350 to $400 total with shipping included is a decent deal for this bike. If you pay more than $400 total you will have overpaid. I will add more to my review after I attempt to use it for a 10 mile round trip commute thru downtown Austin, Texas. |
