Cats Are Unique

I adopted Molly, my cat, in 2004.  She was abandoned by a neighbor and spent the 2003-2004 winter outside.  She endured sub zero Fahrenheit temperatures by finding shelter beneath another neighbor's porch and she survived without any claws on her feet.  Another neighbor, next door, had a house cat so always had food available.  She would put food outside for Molly.  Molly was shy but friendly after getting accustomed to your presence.  During the summer of 2004, the next door neighbor kept feeding Molly in the morning, before work, and at night, after work.   After eating, Molly would disappear until  the time for the next meal.
The neighbor asked me one day if I would  feed Molly, the cat, during a weekend when the neighbor was going out of town.  The neighbor gave me the food as having no cat, I had no food.  I coaxed Molly to my back porch
and the situation worked out well.  The neighbor and I decided that my back porch would be a good place for an outside cat to survive.  I was working every day and every day when I arrived at home, Molly would be waiting on my back porch.  Sometimes she would go over to the neighbor and eat the food she put out as well.  One August day, the neighbor's food was raided by baby racoons.  When Molly saw the racoons she scattered, but returned later to eat.  The next day it got worse.  The coons not only raided the neighbor's food supply but mine as well.  I coaxed Molly to eat my food inside after the episode with the four baby coons.  My neighbor no longer offered dinner to any survivors outside.  In fall, I adopted Molly fulltime and made her home in my basement allowing her the run of the house when I was home.  She was rather wild.  The first night she spent inside, she chewed her way to the outside through a screen on my back porch door.  I was not happy as I had just replaced it to the tune of $27.00.
After that, when I was not at home for an extended period and at night, Molly was confined to the basement.  This has worked out fairly well and we have both learned to survive each other.

With love in my heart, Molly met her maker on April 2, 2009.  She is buried in my backyard where she can watch the birds and I can visit with her when out in the yard.  Her spirit will always be remembered because of her will to survive against all odds.  See a picture of my adopted, unique cat at  http://one-napenterprises.com or go here to see more pictures:  http://www.yuwie.com/yuwie.asp?r=16692.  If you read this story, please send your comments to norinepeardon@yahoo.com.
