Most Recent Posts a counterintuitive use of eBayPosted Aug-16-07 19:05:18 PDT Updated Aug-16-07 19:07:37 PDT I have both bought and sold on eBay going back to 2001, and for the most part I have had what I understand to be a typical eBay experience -- very specific searches and purchases, directed and inviting sales presentations, looking for bottom-line profits while presenting items that will have actual value to buyers. In the process, I have experienced the good will generated by these efforts. My question goes beyond this, because I now find myself offering products that do not fit this profile -- they are products that are directed at a very small audience and I expect (and have experienced) a negative return on my investment in products on eBay. I have a particular motivation that goes beyond the bottom line, and in buyer response I feel vindicated in using this rationale and choice of product type. I am wondering whether any other sellers here are motivated by a similar (I will call it) mission. I believe it benefits and enriches the eBay product base -- unless I am completely missing product lines or individual products, I seem to be almost the sole purveyor of Yiddish products on eBay. And I don't believe it is an inappropriate approach to selling on eBay... eBay will receive the fees from me in any case and as a result has Yiddish products for the small base of buyers I target. I am putting this forward because I think it is an uncommon motive to be found among eBay sellers. And I haven't asked before but do wonder whether there are other sellers here like myself. I wouldn't mind communicating with them. I think we might have much in common and benefit from each other's experience. Is anyone here like me? |
