Welcome to my blog.
Firstly, I would like to invite you to visit my shop, JMP All You Need at stores.ebay.co.uk/JMP-All-You-Need
Secondly, I will introduce myself.
My name is Jon and I am 19. I am currently studying for a degree in Marketing and Advertising Management as well as running this new eBay store.
Now, that you know me and know a little bit about what I do I will begin by telling you how I first got into eBay.
I was 14 when I first dicovered eBay and I used to browse around looking for useless junk I could try and pursuade my Mum to buy for me, I made a few purchases and saw how simple it was to use. For a few years I kept making the odd purchase and was always happy with the services provided, I have only ever has one bad experience on eBay and that was when I boughty a pair of tickets to see The White Stripes and a few days later after all of the sellers 20 tickets were sold he disappeared off eBay, unfortunately for me I didn't understand how to claim my money back and I lost it, so the first piece of valuable information I can give for any beginners is always know what to do if something ever goes wrong, for example if someone does sell you an item they don't have.
Now, after a few years buying things off eBay I realised I owned a lot of things I didn' want anymore. So I pursuaded my Mum to let me use her account to start selling some of this 'junk'. She agreed and off I went. I didn't go crazy and listed a few items at a time. I didn't know much about selling at this point and so my listings were very basic and looked quite unprofessional however, I still managed to get some sales and made around £300 just selling old things I didn' want. The only problem was I spent £400 buying even more useless items off eBay for example, I bought a pair of 'Tamagotchi's' for about £10 for the 'a laugh'.
So again, a year or so later I re-sold all of the junk, I did it all the same way the listings were basic with only a few listings at a time however, this time I ended up making absolutely nothing most of the items I sold went for 0.99p each.
About six months later I started university and a few weeks ago I was really scraping for some spare cash and so naturally had a look around my room to see what I could find, I found a few items and isted them, this time I tried to make the items look a bit more professional and they sold making me a nice £60 which paid for a few good nights out.
After I sold these items I started thinking about someway I could sell on eBay all the time. My first thought was wholesale but obviously as a student I don't have any where near enough capital to be able to afford this.
However, I started researching it anyway and came across a service known as dropshipping, which many of you have probably heard of is a service where you list an item off a dropshippers website, someone buys it off you and you order from them to your customers address and your customer recieves the item it plain packaging so they think you sent it. After seeing this I thought to myself I can do this no problem, it's easy money.
I went and searched on google for a dropshipper and after around 10 minutes I realised this was going to be much much harder than I first expected. Not only did I find lots of scammers I also couldn't find a list of supposedly legitimate dropshippers without paying £20-£100.
As you can imagine I began to become skeptical about the idea of dropshipping. However, after a few days I came across a website: www.dropshipforum.co.uk. I suddenly became much more optimistic, this was forum filled with 100's of posts about dropshipping, what more could I want, I was sure to find a reliable dropshipper on here and I would be able to get to it straight away.
A second piece of advice for everyone, if you're looking to get into dropshipping use this website and it will quickly become your most valuable resource.
Anyway, little did I know how much attention to detail operating a eBay shop using a dropshipper required and the more and more I read the more I realised how difficult it was going to be.
The members on the forum will give you invaluable advice but don't just ask anything see if it has been discussed before if it has that information will be much more valuable and don't expect people to give you all the information you need on a plate. They had to do a lot of research to get where they are and if you want to get there so will you as I quickly found out.
From just a few hours reading the website I learnt so much and started to get an idea of how to spot a genuine dropshipper and how to decide what items you are going to sell. I was feeling confident I would have my store up and running in the next week or so.
Thats it for now, I will probably post a new item tomorrow evening I will finish talking about the preparation for opening my shop and then talk about the problems I faced and how i resolved them.
