I'm sorry nidsel, but I'm afraid you've misinterpreted blog rules. The site I have a link to does not sell items. It is an informational site about long discontinued dinnerware. The purpose of the site is to inform viewers of the different stoneware pieces that were available in the Mar-crest daisy dot line, and to help with identifying the different pieces.

This will help collectors identify the items they own, and will help sellers to better describe the Mar-crest items they have for auction. I invite you to please check the site out and see. Many people (especially babyboomers) remember their parents and grandparents owned pieces of this old stoneware, but have no idea of it's name, pattern or history.

Many Mar-crest pieces look virtually identical to people that don't actually collect these old stoneware beauties. Examples:

There were 4 styles of Mar-crest cups. 3 are coffee / tea cups and the 4th is the soup cup that goes with the snack plate. There's only slight differences between the 4.

Casserole dishes, dutch ovens and bean pots are very often confused. But when you compare pictures of them side by side, you can easily see the differences. Casseroles have a rounded shape. Dutch ovens have sides that are very straight and are smaller at the bottom than the top. Their lids are more dome shaped. Bean pots have tab handles on each side.

Mar-crest also had stackable mixing bowls. Mixing bowl rims are always finished. Pieces that have an unglazed rim or an obvious lip where a lid would rest are not mixing bowls.

Many identical Mar-crest items came in different sizes. The divided vegetable servers came in 2 sizes, as did the Dutch ovens. French handled casserole dishes came in 3 sizes (including the individual size).

That's why measurements are so important. Make sure you measure the outside height as opposed to the inside depth, and also include the width of your item. It's frustrating when you can't find measurements listed in an auction you're interested in. Berry bowls and cereal bowls are especially hard to tell when the measurement isn't included, or the depth is listed rather than the height. Pieces with lids I personally like to see measured without the lid.

I'm always seeking good pictures of hard to find Mar-crest items. It's funny ... just when you think you've seen every item that was produced in the daisy and dot line of Mar-crest, a very rare and never before seen piece will show up on eBay. Many pictures are also emailed to my website. Recent examples include the handled tidbit or relish tray, a curved handle batter pitcher, a large oval shaped meat platter and beer steins with caramel colored rims. (There may also be individual size bean pots with caramel colored rims.) Who knows what might pop up next? As far as I know, there are only a few rare Mar-crest pictures the website still needs. They are:

Oval serving platter, design only on the 2" rim. Platter measures 13 3/4" x 11 1/4"
Individual French handled casserole - white - 10 ounces
Individual French handled casserole - blue - 10 ounces
Square snack plate with wide soup cup
Bean pot half-gallon style 1 - lid rests on top - frosted rim
Individual size mini bean pot frosted rim
Round handled griddle 14 3/4" x 9 1/2"

If you have any of above pieces, it would be very much appreciated if you would consider donating a nice and clear picture of them to the website. Your eBay ID (and/or name and city) will be printed right below each picture.

There are now more and more new collectors of Mar-crest. The Monmouth / Marcrest / Western Stoneware category on eBay has really grown in the past year or two. Besides of the daisy dot pattern, there were pastel Mar-crest tumblers, mugs, french handled casseroles, a bowl, banded pitchers, teapots, etc. Are there still other pieces you've seen that I've failed to mention? Please feel free to drop me a line.

Happy New Year, everyone. May 2007 be your best year yet! Rita
