Most Recent Posts Origins of the FW190Posted Jun-04-07 16:32:06 PDT Design of the Focke Wulf FW 190 began in 1937 with design features including Radial engine air cooled technology and a new low rear spine, giving pilots an unrestricted rear view. These were very inovative for their time and were also features of other famous world war 2 fighters ;the Mustang p51D, the Thunderbolt and the Spitifre. Initial design of the 'Butcher bird' as it came to be known, went through many stages under the direction of designer Kurt Tank, Version 1 and 2 of the FW190 had major problems with engines over heating and version 3 & 4 never flew. After a complete redesign for a new engine - the BMW 801C - the FW190 V5 flew for the first time in April 1940. Find more information at http://fockewulf190.com
